Hello guys, hope you are good.
I was wondering if you guys, because you are way more tech savvy than me, know anything about any good grammar checkers that can be installed on Microsoft Word?
Basically, I've finished a bunch of novels, but I was just wanting to use a program that could maybe catch those typos and wrongly used commas, you know?
I did used to use Grammarly, even the premium version, but the new version of Grammarly is so bad. It used to be that it was an extension, an add in of Word, and you could use it like a search bar when going through your work for suggestions from Grammarly, but I checked out the new version and they've updated it and its so bad. Basically, it doesn't track certain things, and when you move the page, you have to wait for all the Grammarly search results to reload again; its so, so bad.
Anyway, I won't get into all the reasons as to why its just so bad, but I was wondering if you knew of any other sites like Grammarly that are good for checking spelling, punctuation and the like on Word?
Thanks a lot. These are pretty good grammar checkers.

Sure thing. The two that I use are Prowritingaid and Autocrit. Both have free plans as well as higher tier ones with more features. I was able to get in on them when they had special lifetime deals going. Autocrit is going to be offering a lifetime deal coming soon but I don't have the exact date. He could always try out the free version now to see if it's something he likes and maybe that way he'd be on their radar to offer him the lifetime price. I just noticed when I went to Prowritingaid's site to get the URL, that they are offering a lifetime deal now.
If there's anything else I can do to help, let me know.

Your posts have been a lot of help! I will definitely be checking out these sites as alternatives to Grammarly. I love how Grammarly's free version is better than its premium version. Anyway, thanks a lot!
I think the main issue with these tech companies is that they're always innovating, despite the site being really good as is. I know they probably have to update with different systems and all, but alas. Anyway, thanks!

So, got my computer, my old computer, back from the repair shop. Thankfully, I won't have to use my current, broken computer anymore. The majority of the keys on my most recent keyboard don't work, so its good to not have to use a plug in keyboard with this recently repaired old computer.
I'll have to take my most recent computer in, but thankfully its on a seperate contract so there won't be any questions about me taking in multiple computers getting repaired.

But it seems a bit slow. Loading the Inbox folder is taking a pretty long time.
Checked the Task Manager, and outlooks consumes almost 380 MB of RAM.

Yeah, I agree; not a fan at all of the new Outlook. It was doing some weird stuff when I wanted to simply copy and paste some text into a new email. I am sticking with the old version but Microsoft is saying it will be discontinued later this year!
Was also going to say, Frank: so, I've got multiple HP laptops. I had a problem with one recently, so I decided to take it into the place where I bought it, as I've still got a warranty with them (I pay a certain amount a month, like five pounds or something). Anyway, I take it in, its got a cracked screen at the side (but some of the keys on the keyboard don't work), and the guy tells me that they've introduced a policy that from 2020 onwards, all stuff bought from them won't be repaired if there's any cracks of damage to the computer itself; they'll solely deal with any software issues. Yes, I said that right, probably the most common cause of laptop repair (a cracked screen), is no longer being provided by the warranty I pay a fiver a month for! Well, I can tell you that I promptly cancelled my warranty with them after that.
But the thing is, when I got home, my old computer, which had been recently repaired by them as as it was bought in 2019 is no longer working. So, they didn't even repair it right.
Anyway, this is all a long winded way of saying do you think its worth repairing these laptops which are about almost five years old (in some cases older), or do you think I should just buy a new one? I've been a HP guy for a while, but they simply don't last; max I can get three good years out of them. So, do you have any recommendations for laptops (or do you even think I should switch to PC's)?
The thing is, we've got such a throw away culture at the moment, all the people at that store I bought it from made it seem like I was crazy for still wanting a five plus year old laptop to work!

The thing is, we've got such a throw away culture at the moment, all the people at that store I bought it from made it seem like I was crazy for still wanting a five plus year old laptop to work! Even though, i'm also using a HP Laptop, i prefer Desktop Pc's. I only bought this, because my Pc died at the end of the month, and it was on sale. Am i happy ?....not so much.
What a sh***y store, canceling the warranty, was the right thing to do. I don't think it's worth repairing it, because HP Screens will run you between €50 - €250 or even 300. If it's only 60/70 bucks, including labor costs, i would say repair it.
I was looking for PC's online, and if you want a Laptop again, i would recommend this: www.dell.com/en-us/shop/cty/pdp/spd/inspiron-16-5635-laptop/usichbts5635fyxf?tfcid=91049735dgc=opl&gacd=9684992-1105-5761040-266906002-0&dgc=ST&SA360CID=71700000111444211&gad_source=1

wireman, osnafrankI'm back with a question-- is there any reason I could not use a long 75 foot+ ethernet cord from my present location to the side bedroom? It could easily be placed along the edge of the wall, to the other side of the house. Would it cause a loss in effectiveness? The cost would be so much less than a re install to the other side of the house for the router. Hope I am making sense. Thank you

“What is the Maximum Ethernet Cable Length?”
The popular CAT5e, 6, and 6a cables share a maximum length of 328 feet or 100 meters. That means you shouldn't use more than 328 feet of cable to connect any two powered devices, such as a network switch and a computer.

I think you can extend the 328 feet, with another switch/router. in the middle of the connection, but i'm not entirely sure.

Hi, Frank, so ... as well as all the other stuff going on today ... the mouse on my laptop just suddenly vanished!
Do you have any suggestions in response?
Thanks.
