Go to Start , then select Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard, and turn on the On-Screen Keyboard toggle.
Yap, the day was good, hope you have a great day too. Finally got my keywords right in my search....found it in: 'Ease of access', and hunted down 'keyboard' in the menu to the left.
As far as the laptop freaking out, being bitchy and glitchy....I think I might need to reset it to microsoft suggested settings...maybe....I'll work on it when I can.
So far, I haven't had any multiple e's mess with me, or the 'enter' key go stupid maverick on me while i'm using the onscreen keyboard....it starts acting batsh!t crazy sometimes, when i trying to post SOME gifs. Microsoftd***k keeps wanting me to set 'explorer' as my browser....rrrrr....maybe I should? 🙂 I unplugged the usb keyboard (and have been sticking with using the onscreen keyboard only), so far today, I haven't had any of the bitchy glitchy posting pics and gifs problems. I don't really think those two things could be related, but if it seems to work.... I'm goin' with it!
Yeah... I HAVE procrastinated on firing up the "new(er) back up laptop". But only because I've been so busy again this week. I'll get to it when I can devote my full undivided attention to it.
The good news is that I've got this one all clean and pristine again.😊 It did look pretty damn horrendous. 😂💔

Does anyone know what's happening when all the mini icons across the bottom of your screen disappear? Also when I click on the windows icon at the lower left corner, nothing happens. - Yikes!
It looks like my Microsoft suite including Word have also disappeared - Wow

Right-click Start and select Task Manager. Or use the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keyboard shortcut. Open the Processes tab and right-click Windows Explorer. Click Restart.

I wonder if I have been hacked possibly? It seems my Microsoft Office Suite has disappeared so I cannot open any of my Word documents. A message appeared in the lower right hand corner of my screen saying "Activate Windows; Go to Settings to active Windows" But when I go to settings it just comes up as a green square with a gear in the middle and nothing is happening.

Hi Frank - I found my Microsoft Office Suite but they want me to upgrade to Office 365
Also when I go to Settings it is just a big blank green square and nothing happens when I click on it. Probably I need more memory - my son Sean in Edmonton told me a long time ago to go to Memory Express and buy 16 GB Ram but I was procrastinating so looks like I better do it soon before I lose everything I have saved.
I can still type with Microsoft Office or Word 10 so I don't plan on upgrading

I don't think it's an issue with the RAM. How much do you have ?

Hope this does not sound dumb - how do I check this?
When I right click on the Windows symbol in the bottom left (it only works if I right click) it will take me to Settings if I select disk management or computer management but Settings appears to be messed up (just a big blank green box that does nothing)

Oh yes - also there is a message in the bottom right of my screen that is always there and it says
"Activate Windows" Go to Settings to activate Windows.
Well duh - my stupid "Settings" does not work
I think I might need to take this thing in to find out what is going on.
Or maybe just buy a whole new computer (this one is pretty old) - think it is about six years old maybe

You should see a line named "Installed RAM".
But since your Settings screen is just a green square, try this.
Right-click the Taskbar and select Task Manager. Select the Performance tab and click Memory in the left panel. The Memory window lets you see your current RAM usage, check RAM speed, and other memory hardware specifications.

Guess what? I couldn't get into Taskbar either - it is totally messed up
Sorry - what I mean is that after I right clicked the Taskbar the Task Manager would not open up

Weird thing going on with my home desktop. I'm having trouble accessing certain websites and no trouble with others and no trouble with the wi-fi. I have my desktop connected using an ethernet connection. Usually, if I have this trouble, it's a browser issue and I clear the cache and restart the browser and everything is fine but not this time. And what is weird is that I've tried using a different browser and still have trouble with the same sites. I have no trouble with those sites on my work pc, just at home. I have rebooted my router, cleared broswer histories and whatever else I can think of.
For instance, one site I'm having trouble with is e-bay. I can go to the homepage but when I try to go to the page where I enter my password, I get the can't access this site page. I have one credit card site doing the same thing but other bank sites are not. Can't figure this out.

Did you change some settings in your Firewall/Anitvirus ? Maybe the settings were changed after an Update, without notification.

Did you change some settings in your Firewall/Anitvirus ? Maybe the settings were changed after an Update, without notification. I disabled Norton and still had the same issues. I'm thinking maybe a windows update issue but I don't see anything in the settings that look off. I haven't tried windows safe mode yet. I'll try that later.

Sometimes it's helpful to clear the DNS Cache.
Open the Command Prompt and enter the following line: ipconfig /flushdns
It should return a message that the DNS Cache has been flushed succesfully.
