I haven't cooked in weeks. Can't even sleep unless I'm sitting upright, so have been living on saltine crackers and english muffins. Lol. Tonight I actually made a cold noodle salad. But don't ask me why since it hasn't been above zero here in over a month. Most days, the high "actual" temps are around -5 degrees F with the wind chill in the -30 to -45 degree range. Gross.

It won't be long and you will be making fresh veggie salads again. I've been in the mood for some homemade salads.
I hope you have cough syrup on hand in case cold weather affects you. A cough is killer with sore ribs.

I hope you have cough syrup on hand in case cold weather affects you. A cough is killer with sore ribs. That's a very good idea - thank you! I've had a runny nose for the past few days. Blowing my nose is so incredibly painful. I've had many crying jags because the pain is so unbearable, but make myself stop because crying hurts way too much as well. I feel like I've been improving a bit in the past few days and am incredibly grateful for that.
I've been craving greens too since I'm feeling a bit better. Also have the ingredients to make some homemade hummus, but have to mash the garbanzos by hand because I don't have a food processor. So am waiting for a low pain day to tackle that one!

morgan What's wrong? I'll go search and see if I can find out what happened? I hope you are OK!
I am involved in a fund raising soup dinner for Room in the Inn. It's a great program I'm part of and we need to fund it a little. So one of the girls in my group is hosting a Soup Salad Bread Dinner for about 40 people. She's asked a few of us to bring crocks of soup and a bread to go with. I love soup and I love to cook it. But I'd like to do something different and new. Someone is doing chili and someone else is doing potato soup. They suggested I do chicken noodle, but we've all had cold around here and I've done that more than once lately. I've been thinking of beer cheese soup, but I never tried to eat it or make it. Sounds delicious. Have you ever tried it? Have you ever made it? It mostly sounds like a soupier cheese sauce. It's got carrots, onions, garlic, cheese, chicken broth, pale ale, milk, half and half, flour, some seasoning. I thought I'd serve it with pretzel bites. What do you think?
My boss gave me a gift card for $75 to a swanky restaurant in East Memphis - Seasons 52. So I think I'll take my Ogre there tonight. No cook Friday, No cook Saturday. If it's still cold Sunday I think I'll do some soup.
@osnafrank @administrator GARLIC! I love garlic. Lots of garlic. I think it keeps me healthy. When you eat too much, can you smell it through your skin? I smell it more on my skin than I do on my breath. I think that's why mosquitoes don't bite me. I love garlic. And bacon, and cheese, and wine.

hollygolightly Beer cheese soup is delicious! I haven't had it in many years and have no idea how difficult it is to make though. My mom makes great soups - me, not so much. The pretzel bread pairing sounds absolutely divine! Hope it all turns out perfectly and that the fundraiser is a huge success!

Okay, now I can't stop thinking about cheese. Gawd, I miss cheese. I found a really good vegan shredded parmesan, but there is nothing even remotely comparable to a great sharp cheddar or some melty American cheese. (And if anyone tells you any different, slap them for me and yell "LIAR!" )

Additional hints: If you drink enough wine and whiskey, you'll forget about the zombies and Godzilla! And after drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, you probably shouldn't light any candles - might burn the house down.

It's Super Bowl day, so no real supper. We're making veggie tortilla roll ups, calzone pinwheels, cheese pennies, homemade fried pickles, and having store bought cream puffs. Homemade fried pickles!? (That sounds really good) - how do you make them?
They're pretty easy. I get the sandwich sliced pickles. Let them drain on paper towels until they're almost dry. I make a breading from flour and cornmeal, seasoned with old bay seasoning, and a dash of cayenne. Dip them an egg wash with a little buttermilk, then into the breading mixture, and fry in a skillet until they're golden brown. I use a homemade ranch dressing as a dip.

We are trying to eat healthier. We both need to lose weight, and dh is pre-diabetic.
Last night I made savoury liver. (DH needs iron.) and in the instant pot I cooked potatoes and cauliflower with a clove of garlic and a shallot, then mashed up like mashed potatoes.
I’m not very good at the “healthy” thing, but I understand the cauliflower is healthier than potatoes, but mashed alone the texture is not so great.

An old-fashioned hamburger pot pie using those Pilsbury pie crusts. Simple as mixing meat with jar of beef gravy, and can of peas and carrots and corn, pouring into crust (in dish) and baking on 425. I like to serve with rice or mashed potatoes to add a starch.

(I'm guessing it's better if you brown the hamburger first) khi3f

No cheese for you, sister? Just veggies and beans? Oy. I'd have to drink loads of booze then. for sure. Do you eat sweets?
I'm going to try the beer cheese soup then. I'll do a trial run sometime this week, just in case I'm horrible at it.
doccreed I make something similar to that - I haven't bought the pie crusts though - I get the crescent rolls. Always very good. Definitely good winter dinner.
@annemarie We need to eat healthier too. I'm better about it during the spring and summer when I can grill and get fresh vegetables from the farmers market (I'm a horrible gardener). I have tried cauliflower mac and cheese (the cauliflower pretended to be the pasta). If I had to lose 10 pounds for an event, I could do it for two weeks. As a regular substitute for pasta and rice or pizza crust - it would feel like a penance. Maybe I should do that for Lent. Eat cauliflower instead of carbs. Six weeks - 42 days. That's an idea.
