Close encounters of the rattlesnake kind this morning at Jonathan Dickinson Park. Being all stretched out like that, the snake was probably warming himself on the sand. He wasn't in a hurry to move as I approached.

Cool, pretty scary but cool. Did she rattle when you approached ?

Cool, pretty scary but cool. Did she rattle when you approached ? No rattle from this one. The snake didn't seem too disturbed by me (I kept my distance of course). I have a video (way too big to upload here) of it crawling off the trail. When it gets to the brown grass on the side, it practically disappears. Their camouflage is incredible. I like seeing them stretched out on bright white sand much better than in the weeds.

"I didn't see you in camouflage practice today" " Awww, thank you"
That's really impressive.

You’re always making the most exciting and interesting new friends, while out farting around and exploring in the Gator Mobile.

A gopher tortoise going into his burrow. Rattlesnakes share these holes with the tortoises.

I think this is an Eastern Coachwhip snake. It really blends in well with the pine needles. Difficult to see in the long shot (and as I was walking by)

The majority of snakes are not poisonous.
I think there are 6 species of poisonous snakes in Florida. The main poisonous snakes we have in my area are the Eastern diamondback rattle snake, the water moccasin and the coral snake.

You’re not kidding. 😳 That thing looks like it would give even an Australian pause.

Saw a coral snake this morning. They are venomous but it's difficult for a human to get bit by one unless they are handling it. They usually run away as soon as they see you so they are hard to get a photo of.
