I worry in the event of sites like Steam going offline, if the games purchased will even still be playable. That's another good thing about GOG, you can download Galaxy which is like Steam's client and it will run the game installer and do everything for you with just one click, or you can download the installer files manually and do it yourself and back up the installer files to a disc, thumb drive or what have you so you have a back up. But Steam going out of business, very unlikely, they could however sell to another company but if that was to happen, they'd just merge over so Steam members would be fine. Steam is just too big now, they made it to where PC game publishers were able to cut a lot of corners, and reduce staff, etc, and so on. Steam even handles most of their tech work. GOG isn't totally different, GOG handles a lot of the tech work rather than the game maker, and GOG will even at times make their own patches because the game company doesn't want to. GOG just needs more games badly, they have a lot of classics but they need to try to get more publishers on board. AC2 through AC4 would be a good start but Ubi just won't budge, yet.

Still very much a thing but the chit chat has moved to Russian hosted sites since they moved on to PS4 emulation and those games are still heavily guarded over. The biggest gaming thing these days however isn't emulation, its "repacks". For those who don't know what that means, its just a game that just needs to be unzipped and then pleyed, no need to install the game anymore and then apply the crack, its good to go after the unzipping. Its the best way to avoid any possible DRM... I hate DRM as much as the next guy but I just buy games on GOG, they're all DRM free, and if its not on GOG, I don't need to play it. I do play Sims 4 but I removed the DRM myself, went legit, just removed the drm on my own, even though it means no online features. I hate DRM. That's very understandable. I worry in the event of sites like Steam going offline, if the games purchased will even still be playable. Or at least, playable with the same save data. Most companies are better about preserving their older games for a younger generation, both Sony and Xbox usually lower the prices on 5+ year old games to steals or let you download any game for no additional cost from a wide variety with a monthly subscription, then there's Nintendo that hates emulaton and makes their over a decade old games $60 because corporate greed. I wonder if the ebay prices for their older games plays a role. There is a number of old Nintendo games that are sold for hundreds of dollars or more.

I wonder if the ebay prices for their older games plays a role. There is a number of old Nintendo games that are sold for hundreds of dollars or more. If Nintendo priced their older games at $20 they'd sell like hotcakes, most people prefer to emulate, but they'd still make money. But unlike other popular gaming developers, Nintendo has developed a cult like fanbase that will forgive a company even for its most unethical practices, where as other companies run the risk of being boycotted or called out en masse for their BS, Nintendo fans are too quick to forgive. Hence, when popular Super Smash Brothers streamer Demond Amofah, better known by his online alias "Etika", unfortunately passed away at the age of 29 after committing suicide due to culminating mental health issues, fans of the streamer helped raise money for his family to fund his funeral by selling customized Nintendo Switch controllers decorated with the streamer's logo. When Nintendo heard about this, their immediate action, like with anything made by fans, was to threaten legal action with a cease and desist. Incapable of shedding even a single tear of empathy for a young man who dedicated his career to making online content relating to their games unfortunately deciding to end his life just shy of 30, or for said young man's family needing financial aid funding his funeral due to how expensive formal funerals are, Nintendo couldn't bear the thought of missing out on any small amounts of money going to a charity instead of them. People called out Nintendo for this, sure, but those same people kept on making online content relating to Nintendo games, purchasing their content, when the idea of boycotting could've possibly caused the company to reconsider being abusive in their authority. I like Nintendo games, but I wouldn't hesitate to call the company less than ethical. They have a lengthy history of sticking their legal team's d!ck anywhere they can.

The biggest Nintendo game I've ever wanted to play was Goldeneye for the N64. I am a big fan of the original movie, and didn't care much for the recent remake/reimagining game with Daniel Craig. I have never owned too many Nintendo products. The only console I've ever personally owned is an GameCube and that was to mainly play Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. I know that Nintendo also got in alot of trouble with people years ago about their partnership programs. They started claiming any videos that featured their games. I konw that upset a number of people on YouTube especially the ones that make their living on doing gaming content. I was never a fan of Etika, but it was tragic what happened to him.

I like Nintendo games, but I wouldn't hesitate to call the company less than ethical. They have a lengthy history of sticking their legal team's d!ck anywhere they can The Sega and Nintendo war was fun while it lasted, I always had both since Sega had some better games than Nintendo but Nintendo had all the 3rd party companies behind them, at least until the Genesis, that's when the 3rd party companies started working with both more often. Nintendo's greed really gave them the edge though, Sega tried to play nice and greed tends to override nice. Sega is still around but they just publish games these days as far as I know.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I think the Sims 4 is a game grade school kids should all have and be encouraged to play. They really got as close to a real life simulator as they can while retaining the general audience rating, I mean career, degree, relationship, etc, and so on wise, its dead on, and kids can get an idea how the real world is like by playing it, which many already do. Even the houses in the Sims 4 cost a lot more than they used to, in the older games a family was just able to move into a nice big home at the very start, now the best a young family can afford at the start is a tiny 2 bedroom home with one bathroom. They did get rid of being able to buy cars though but cars are still in the game, the player just has no control over them, they opened the door to a lot of bugs in the third game so they had to go back to the way transportation was handled in the second game
Anywho, its edumactationalistic as someone in Living Color used to say...
He also said breastisis a lot, think it was Keenan who said it, there were so many great skits in that show though that I forgot which one of them played the character in jail who always tried to sound educated.

Nintendo's greed really gave them the edge though, Sega tried to play nice and greed tends to override nice. I can understand wanting to get a share, but it shouldn't be all of it. Most people that watch these videos are people that got the game already. They are also watching for the commentary of the creator, not just to watch the game without playing it.

They are also watching for the commentary of the creator, not just to watch the game without playing it. Nintendo is nearly dead now but Sony and MS better not get comfy, PC gaming keeps getting more and more popular. I've brought up modding numerous times in this thread but modding is getting more and more advanced to where games people got four hours out of, they can now get 10 hours out of them thanks to mods. Why is modding getting better? Because of sites like Paetron that allow modders to charge a monthly fee to download their mods. Modders now can pull in 5-10 thousand a month on donations for their mods every month instead of doing them for free, so many now have quit their day jobs and just continue to work on mods for the Sims, Fallout 4, Skyrim, and the like, and keep releasing new content so people keep donating 5-10 a month for their mods. In other words, what was a cool free thing others gamers shared, its started to become more about profit. Yes, there are still tons of modders who do their mods for free but more and more are now turning a BIG profit from their work. The gaming industry is always evolving, its just evolving faster than ever now, and so many are now making good money by making simple mods or just posting video reviews on Youtube, its changing the world in some ways. But there's still tons of people who need to do the boring 9 to 5 thing... but who knows how that'll play out due to robotics advancing. We live in an interesting time... and its only going to get more interesting.

Been posting here and on Facebook so much lately I finally wore out one of the keys on my ancient keyboard, the "e" key is on its way out.
Why bring that up here, it made me think of another pro about PC gaming, the ability to play FPS games with a keyboard and mouse, sniping is so much easier with the mouse and moving around with the keyboard. Fighting games, still gamepad only really, I mean I can use the keyboard but I don't enjoy it, but FPS and RPG games, its all about the keyboard and mouse. I think it was Nintendo that tried to come out with a keyboard/mouse combo thing first for consoles, didn't go over to well but it was a good idea. Thing is, most sit back on the couch when they play console games, they don't sit at a desk, so the keyboard isn't easy to use, so it wouldn't be really worth to push that route with console gaming.

If i remember correctly, Counter-Strike started off as just a mod for Half-Life, now it is it's own series. Keyboard and Mouse are absolutely best for FPS games. I have always preferred playing FPS games on PC. The only reason I play Deus-Ex on PS3/PS4(when I get one) is just cause my PC isn't powerful enough to play them both smoothly. I once had MGS 1 on PC, and hated the keyboard controls for the game. Holding a controller is better for me with MGS, SC, and AC(the ones I like)

Holding a controller is better for me with MGS, SC, and AC(the ones I like) Konami went cheap and rather than re-tooling the game for a proper pc release, they tossed out a super quick port, shame really, was a solid game despite the bad controls and no ragdoll physics. In the end, Splinter Cell owned it because Ubisoft did a proper PC release of Splinter Cell, and they got the US special op thing down better, Sam was always more realistic than Snake, Snake almost came off comic book like with how strong and unstoppable he came off, while Sam was very mortal and had a lot of weaknesses, such as his daughter. Shame Ubisoft would never consider working with Konami. Ubisoft is dead set on using their own DRM and their third party client to play their games, while Konami just relies on Steam's DRM and doesn't have any interest in making a client to run their games, so a Snake/Sam crossover, never would happen but it would be cool if it did. As for Counterstrike, never played it but Valve let a lot of others do that, they created Steam and became the dominant game seller, so making games or others using their games, they didn't give a damn at that point, they had become the ruler of all game distribution.

I don't know if ragdoll physics was ever used on PlayStation games. I know there was a port of MGS 2 for PC as well. Never played that one, I just know that it also didn't have good keyboard and mouse controls either. I know in the Gamespot video review, the reviewer called it basically a port of a port. MGS 2 was ported to Xbox, then the Xbox port was ported to PC. There were also issues getting the game to run at the time, even if you had a high-end PC. I really enjoyed SC as well, but Snake is still my favorite video game character. As a matter of fact, I actually recognized Snake's voice cause his original voice actor was in a movie called Guyver: Dark Hero. I appreciate SC for it's realism, I just really enjoy the stories of Metal Gear, even though it can be confusing at times. Ubisoft did kind of work with Konami, but not with SC. In MGS 4, you can unlock the outfit of Altair from AC 1 for Snake to wear. In MGS: PW, Big Boss and the other characters you can play as can do a leap of faith into hay in one area. They also combined the hay with a cardboard box and called it an assassin's straw box. In one of the Ezio games, you can make Ezio look like Raiden from MGS 4. It would be cool if they ever made a game where Snake and Sam could fight each other. I enjoyed the fan created one on YouTube. I wish that Steam was able to get certain games like Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force, that was a fun game to play.

Well, I don't know if there are any of my fellow Guild Wars 2 players who inhabit this board, but as this is the first day of October I thought I would pass along the news that Mad King Thorn will be visiting our pixelated world starting next Tuesday. This Halloween-flavored festival is the most popular one in the game, and is great fun.

Never played that one, I just know that it also didn't have good keyboard and mouse controls either. It was called Sons Of Liberty I believe, and it was a bad port as well but nearly as bad as MGS. It suffered from another issue, an entirely new character to play as, and he looked like a silly anime character, imo. Snake looked more Amercain animation wise, the new character looked like someone out of the Robotech cartoon series. And yeah, once in awhile game publishers will allow other publishers to use their content. There's a total Star Wars add on for the Sims 4, and while I'm not a SW fan, its a very well done add on. I like the Sims 4 and all but EA Games is too big for their own good, they're like the Disney of the game industry, they just dominate to much of the game market, the Sims plays a role, its easily one of the most successful game franchises. If one wants every add on for the Sims 4, they're looking at around 600 dollars, and millions have all of the stuff. And the Sims 3, I'd say it was about 400 if one wanted it all. Its a cross gender game, so that's lots of women and men shelling out big money. Go figure, a life simular with some cartoon elements beating out Skyrim, which is an epic game. But life is weird like that.

Another EA game that is still getting add-ons is the SW game, The Old Republic which is an online MP game. I think they are still doing add-ons for that as well. I have never played Skyrim or The Sims 4 so I can't speak from experience.

I have never played Skyrim or The Sims 4 so I can't speak from experience. Skyrim, without all the mods I use, its worthless, one can spend maybe 5 minutes creating a character and then its off to the quests, most of which are highly repetitive and involve killing dragons, and the player's character doesn't even have any voice acting for their lines, its all text based for the player's character, while the NPC's are all voiced by actors. I never understood that about the Elder Scroll series, they put tons of voice acting into the game but the characters player doesn't say a word, just has lines of text to click on. One can say, "it would take too much time to have actors cover every line of possible dialog", but Telltale's Walking Dead game has far more different lines of dialog to pick from but the actor who voices the player's character recorded each and every line, and that was a 20 dollar game, Skyrim was a 50 dollar game. In short, Bethesda cut a corner to save a few bucks despite the fact they're mega rich.

I have never played a Telltale game, especially not Walking Dead cause I'm not a fan of that franchise. But from what I know, those games aren't open world, so it doesn't have to create so many scenarios. But I know that is not a good excuse cause The Old Republic did record most lines of dialogue as far as I know.

To be fair though, Telltale's games aren't really open world. I have never played a Telltale game Actually the first TWD game had tons of scenarios, many choices made by lee resulted in different scenarios, so they had to get the actor to record hours of dialog for all the different scenarios. But no, not open world. Saints Row 4 is though, lots of scenarios, tons of voice acting, three different male and three different female voice actors to pick from. I wasn't asking for much from Bethesda, just here and there it would have been cool if the character had a few one liners, like after a fight saying, "well that was a waste of my time". Saints Row 4 has a lot of voice acting but that isn't what makes it better, its the fun random one liners the players character will say at times, some of the lines are just great. Bethesda is still a cool company, its just weird that their expansions for Skyrim are better than the base game, still need about 2 gigs worth of mods to make it worth my time though. But I'm looking forward to the next Saints Row rather than the next Elder Scrolls, I'm not even searching for teasers anymore though, I want to be totally surprised in what direction they take, its going to be wild most likely since the 4th was just totally insane.

But I do think that they can record many lines for open world games. I think The Old Republic recorded many lines and their different variants.
