With the lock downs in place, while I still go out and do the "essentials", I still have quite a bit of free time during the day so I started gaming again, it had been awhile. I find my favorite type of video games are the RPG open world games, but there's a few others that aren't that are still great. So without further ado, I'll name the two games that have helped me kill some time, and a few others and welcome other gamers to post about their faves at the time, doesn't matter if they're new or old.
Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines This one has been a fave of mine for awhile now. It came in the early 2000's but it was rushed and had so many bugs that despite the cool atmosphere, story, and game play, the crashing and quest bugs made me shelf it for awhile. Years later some guy just started making unofficial patches for it, unlocking content they meant to make available to players but never had the chance to finish, as well as fixing all the quest bugs and most of the crash issues. But not only are there various vampire clans to play as, there's tons of 3rd party mods to make them look even better, as well as mods that update the graphics. On top of that, the game pays homage to so many iconic horror stories and films. The film/book it pays homage to the most is the Shining, they totally made the hotel that one of the early quests involves look like the Overlook hotel and there's even the tricycles in the hallways and other little easter eggs that pay homage to the story, as well as a little mini Elm Street house in one of the rooms. They also pay homage to the Howling, Lost Boys, and various other horror films. The only down side, it isn't open world. There's a Santa Monica, Downtown LA, Hollywood, Chinatown, and a few other maps but one just can't openly roam, quests have to be finished to get to other locations. It heavily relies on the Masquerade code, if one does something humans see its a strike and if they can to many strikes, the game is over, there's also cool multiple endings. I tend to play as a member of the Gangrel clan or Malkavian.
Fallout: New Vegas Like many Bethesda games it's an open world game where you create your own character and there are over 200 side and main quests, and then there's tons of 3rd party mods that add even more quests, as well as tons of clothing, body, weapon, and other types of mods. I never cared for Fallout 3, seemed most of it was in the sewers and the outside world was just bland, I also didn't care for the story. New Vegas uses the same engine but has far more life. But like Bloodlines, it had tons of bugs until a few years back 3rd party mods fixed some of the issues. As for paying homage to things, if one picks the "Wild Wasteland" perk from the start of the game, they'll come across small easter eggs that pay homage to Star Wars, 99 Luftballoons, Beyond Thunderdome, They Live, and other post apoc and sci fi stories.
The first Tomb Raider reboot is #3 on my list, i haven't played the sequels since the system requirements are way too high, but talk about an improvement. Lara is now more realistic looking and serious and not some Jessica Rabbit looking character, and the atmosphere in those games and traps and whatnot, just great gaming.
So anyone else killing time gaming? I know some are into their PS5's, those who were lucky enough to get them.

Nuclear Throne- Actually perfect game, a crowning jewel of the bullet hell and rogue-lite genres. Perhaps maybe my favorite game of all time, that's tough though.
Hollow Knight- Amazing metroidvania with beautiful hand-drawn visuals and dark souls inspired elements
Dead by Daylight- Great multiplayer horror game, granted most of the playerbase sucks and the developers can't patch bugs correctly to save their lives, but still a great game none the less
Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3- Each game has its ups and downs, but they're all good. 1 has the best level design and story but is much simpler in terms of combat compared to the other 2. 2 is a great game but some of the changes they made from the 1st one are borderline idiotic. 3 is way too short and has some lacking level design, but it makes up for it by having some of the best combat and boss fights I've ever fought in video games. Slave Knight Gael, Darkeater Midir, Nameless King, Demon Prince, The Twin Princes, and the Dancer of the Boreal Valley are some of the best boss fights ever designed in gaming, period.
Cuphead- Great visuals and gameplay and some memorable boss fights
Earthbound (Aka Mother 2) and Mother 3- some of the best stories and creativity to ever grace gaming, I love the world and characters and humor and visuals of both games, they use simple pixel art that their consoles were bound to to the best of their ability. The only thing dragging them down is that turn based combat isn't really my thing but the rest of what the game offers makes up for it.

i am still a fan of Assassin's creed Another franchise that slipped my mind. I'll be honest, I did NOT like the first game, but the second pulled me in and I loved how accurate they were with history, and touching on all the great icons of the early days and the physics and the visuals, and the characters, they're solid games. However, they don't have a lot of instant re-play value due to them being so story driven, I need to take a breather for a month or two before i'm ready to play again. Great games though.

It's hard to say, I think it would have already been done and I don't think they'd have put the original on GOG if they were going to do a modern version of it. When it comes to New Vegas and Bloodlines, I only went back to them because they're on GOG now. If you're not familiar with it, its a website where they sell games from various publishers that don't require Steam or any other 3rd party client, and zero drm. I don't hate Steam, its got its uses but I prefer DRM free if possible. Some think anti DRM people are all pirates, that just isn't the case, DRM can be buggy, real buggy. There was one game that had some DRM that caused my registry to corrupt after I uninstalled the game which required having to do a Windows XP repair, which took hours. After that, i got a little edgy about DRM.

I Like Mario an Donkey Kong Games too an Pac Man! The quarters I wasted playing those three games, don't even want to think about it. Resident Evil 2 is an all time fave of mine, also enjoyed the 3rd and while the 4th was a bit of a departure, it was intense and fun as hell. The 5th game is where they lost me for awhile, it just felt like a mindless 3rd person shooter, it just didn't feel like an RE game but then the 6th went back to being cool. I even like the films and I usually don't like video game films but they didn't follow the game series, I mean sure, some characters from the games appear in the films but the films are really all about Alice who kicks serious a*s. The films did get silly towards the end, they took the mutation thing way too far.

That would be the game but you really need to play the third, it takes place more outside of buildings and it has Nemesis, in fact its called Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. I heard a remake of RE2 came out a few years back but I'm so behind on newer games, I will give it shot one day but no rush. I tend to play older games like VTM: Bloodlines, Fallout, GTA: San Andreas, and I still really enjoy the first Max Payne.

I liked the ragdoll physics in GTA 4 far more than earlier games, the bodies just bounced off of things very realistic, but I didn't care for GTA 5, just didn't like any of the characters. I've played all the Max Payne games but prefer the first, it just was fast paced and a lot of fun. I totally forgot about the Silent Hill games, I never cared for the first but Silent Hill 2 and 3 were a lot of fun, I think I prefer 2 though. The third just takes place in a mall but the second has that spooky town to go through. The sequels that came after 3, didn't really do it for me though. They got too lame....

If so, it wasn't as much fun for me but it was ok. The game I'm bummed about right now is Bloodlines 2, its first person only and the first one was first and third just like New Vegas and Skyrim. I just installed an Aliens mod for New Vegas that puts Aliens in a little section where there's tons of cattle that they kill without mercy, and they are not easy to kill so I had to run away from them, I mean fifty shot and one lost like like 4% of its health... need a stronger weapon, like a nuke.
