Hope everyone had a great Christmas, I never got snow where I am which is a bit of a bummer but otherwise the Christmas celebrations were pretty good. Enjoyed Boxing Day as well, good fun. sweet? savory?...........for all i know, there could be bloody meat in it. No - there is no meat in it - just raisins plus oatmeal and other ingredients:
500g plain flour (or plain cake flour)
• 200g beef suet
• 250g castor sugar
• 250g raisins
• 250g sultanas
• 1 tsp ground cinnamon*
• 1 tsp ground allspice
• 1 tsp ground ginger
• 1/4 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
• 3 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 2 large eggs
• 1 bramley apple, peeled and grated
• 3 tbsp black treacle
• 100ml whole milk
• extra plain flour for dusting
I don't think he used any beef suet (I don't know because I did not watch him). Plus instead of tying it up in a cloth he used a large stainless steel bowl as a mold.
Knowing him he did it all from memory - I have never seen him use a cook book
Look up "spotted d*ck" - apparently it is sort of similar (the word this Board censored starts with D but sounds like "pick" s015
You can make some custard to put on top or if you don't feel like that just eat it with Devon Custard (we can buy this in a can, imported from the UK)
