It's supposed to be 105 today and tomorrow. Yesterday was about 100 degrees, but I tried to get most of my errands done. Had a chance to do a little organizing at my old place and grab a few necessities. I won't be able to get back there for over a week.
I'm critter sitting tomorrow. Today I'm putting together a few packages to take to the post office next week. Really getting into my Insomnia re-read as well.
Thinking of all my SKMB friends and wishing everyone a fun and safe weekend!
That's good, before the Things get out of Hand

My youngest daughter flies in at 5pm today for a visit, 4 days. Very excited. Time to dig out another box of old pictures. She loves looking at those. It gives me a chance to tell her about her family and stories too.

What a cool surprise gift from Frank, MaryPeg!
Today we are celebrating our youngest's 15th birthday (it's actually tomorrow). We're letting her have a party downstairs with 7 friends. The Ogre and I and the dogs are sequestered upstairs in the bedroom for the next 3 hours. I got them a Chicfila nugget tray and cookies and ice cream. They're LOUD!
She was a breech baby, so it best to have a c-section. The doctor had two available dates for a scheduled c-section. I went with Aug 19th in honor of all things King. A scheduled c-section is the way to go. Easiest birth and recovery ever. August was a miserable month to be 9 months pregnant in Memphis.
The dogs are being total spazzes.

I’m at the German Pavilion drinking a Holsten beer from Hamburg and raising a toast to you Frank! I haven’t had any food since about 5 pm and I’m on my second beer - I switched to some beer that starts with an E now (Erdinger)
Well I made it home safely from the German Pavilion - there were two people there from the Scottish pavilion and I had my picture taken with them. Bought some original gummy bears (they were invented in Germany) and Andy bought me some handmade stud earrings.
We had bratwurst with potato salad and I had a shot of apple schnapps.
A lady at the beer kiosk gave me a cheese pretzel when I said I wasn't used to drinking and hadn't had any food yet. I ended up taking it home to my son.
Overall it was a fun time! I like the live German music. Tonight is the last night of Folklorama so I'm glad I got a chance to go to this pavilion.

I have to log off now - I'm getting the games mixed up - posting book titles in the "answer with a movie title" thread and mixing up Stephen King Book game with the Word Association game - perhaps I got up too early so I'm going to have to go back for a snooze now
See y'all later!

I took your advice neesy and went to my grandfather's house. He has a single wide at the bottom of a woodland ravine and next to it a tiny shotgun house (it looks like a shed and I can do a chinup on the low hanging roof). It is white clapboard with a wooden porch swing of red scales (like an old canoe that needs sandpaper). The porch is cement slab, even-keel with the ground, and I barely need to lift a foot to walk onto it, but I have to duck my head under the slanted roof. When I get out of the truck my grandfather is sitting on this porch in his old nubby polyester easy chair and an elbow propped on his stereo. He has been feeding a stray cat (a beautiful raccoon-colored cat that is his buddy these days) and when I walk up I see it splayed out on the cool concrete next to a black bowl of milk. Its tail curls and flattens and its luna moth eyes blink at me lazily and look away. I sit in the swing and remark how cool it is in the shade, and the radio is so low the music and ads are indistinguishable. He talks about his walnut tree (its leaves yellowing) and he says it won't be long before it'll start producing. From the porch, the red gravel stretches over our heads to the rim of the road. A truck rumbles past and from the driver's window a hand makes a V. We wave. The cat's tail keeps curling. Sun-splotches warm the arbor draped in dead vines and the ground. The two-gallon plastic ice-cream bucket nailed to the corner post is nearly empty of its sunflower seeds. Today I didn't see any birds but the breeze was nice. My grandfather, Buddy, will turn eighty-two on Labor Day and I tell him I will make him a banana cake or a peach cobbler. His eyes disappear in his brown simian skin and the brackets around his mouth stretch to his ears as he searches his pocket for a cigarette. We sit and talk as the distant ocean waves crash in the tree tops.

You are so lucky to have a grandfather that is still alive. My eyes watered up a bit while reading this ((((doc)))) - thanks for making ME feel better! (and here I was trying to help you feel better)
I'm just dealing with a slightly overcooked banana cake but I found out from the good old internet that I can make a simple syrup with brown sugar and water and drizzle it over the cake before putting any icing on it - wish me luck!
Andy is still engrossed in his Harry Potter marathon lol

doccreed that sounds like the best day. You are blessed indeed to still have a living grandparent. And a little place close enough to the beach to hear the waves crashing. Sounds like a heaven. I hope you had a great day there. neesy your talk of banana inspired me. So here I sit with my dry goods sifted together, my butter and sugar creamed, only to discover: no vanilla. I don't know how that happened. I never use it. Maybe it evaporated. The Ogre has gone to fetch some. I'll let you know how it turns out. I had 5 small bananas that had gone to mush. I'm going to try the cream cheese frosting recipe that was suggested for it. Or maybe not. People in this house - except for me - don't like frosting - they say it's too sweet. Today I am cutting the grass. I should have started earlier because it's going to be ungodly hot today. But I'm waiting for the dew to dry. Planning to get started about noon.I love holiday weekends. The work week starts on Tuesday, and then there's only 3 days left until Friday. That's a lot of work I've got to squeeze in though. I likely won't be around the SKMB this week because of it. Y'all have a good week!

I slightly reworded this post for Facebook so hopefully there isn't any confusion. Heh. Enjoy your cake...isn't it your favorite? I don't feel like cooking today; I'm thinking about getting a bunch of egg rolls and some red sauce to dip it in and calling it dinner.

Hi - I bought a can of Devon cream - it’s actually a Devon custard but it’s pourable- it really helps to moisten the cake So this morning I was awoken at 4:37 a.m. because Andy was packing his suitcase; I drove him to the airport and for some strange reason I thought he was leaving tomorrow smilie_frech_058 I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he can straighten out his working situation up there
