Once we start on the story and after the first chapter is finished, how much time will each person have to write the next chapter. I can't think of any way except 24 hours between each chapter. Each day we will read the new part and then the next chapter is due 24 hours from that point. We can't work ahead because we will need to see the most recent events to move the story along. Is this the way it works?

And after thinking on it another second, I do know that there will be areas that are set and we can't just go Stupid Maverick and let our Freak Flags fly to wildly, Miss doyoulove19 . 😊😉
....you got that DIO?....🤨😊😉.....you big freaky hippie! 😄😉😊 Chill, girl! I'm chill Dio! Lol, he's kinda cute! 😄 I'd give him a bath! 😆😉
Lol, thekidd12! 😆
mary , I really think we're going to have much longer than just 24 hours to do all of our parts. 🙂 Check out her timeline post again, I think it's more than reasonable. We're getting there guys! 😄 And it's going to be great! 😊

I guess this is payback for working for Aggie engineers who have a conference every day and write outlines about the meeting (with maybe a drawing) and then write an outline of what they did that day, plus write an outline about what they will do the next day and on and on, etc. lol

So, we're almost done with day 2. I feel like we are definitely leaning towards a ghost/haunted house type of thing, but still need to hear from a couple more. Also, as has been pointed out there will be room to incorporate a few minor nuances to each individual's chapter, so other topics may come up.
Here's a rough timeline of what I would like to accomplish. Please let me know your thoughts, and again, I would like to hear from all of my writers, pretty please!!
Task Due date Establish theme 9/5 Work out other rules * 9/12 Finalize writing order 9/15 First writer's story due 9/21
Publish the story on the main board, starting on 10/21 with final chapter posted on Halloween!!!
*Other rules - word count, days to write, main writing style (3rd person, Point of View, etc.), any rules around character development of a previous writer's character, etc. etc. We will work these out as we get the the deadline.
Here's how the writing will work. By assigned order, the writers will work OFFLINE on their chapter of the story. Once complete, they will PM the chapter to me. I will check word count, work on any light edits and get back to the writer. You should feel free to question my edits, but word count will be firm and I may not wiggle much on the other stuff either!
Once each piece is final, then I will post it on a new thread that is part of this private section that we have access to. It will be read only, except for me. The other writers can now read the section and the next writer is on the clock. I will be reminding everyone when you due dates are and when you are up next.
Any questions, please let me know! I am really getting excited as I see the brainstorming and enthusiam!
Just bumping this to keep it near the most recent page so I can view the timeline and not have to search for it.

Thanks for pulling that schedule up closer Dio. 😊
....lol, "post it guy" could fit in somewhere in the "pudding wrestling, classroom spanking and telepath monkey student" story! 😆😉
Ewwwww! .....that is a horrific bathtub scene! Yuck kinda like the one in 13 Ghosts, and that old hag in the Shining. Good work, Dio! 😊
Let's not over do it, and start threadjacking, bub. 😉 You've got plenty of other places to mess around in and get man handled into the Penalty Box! Lol, I know you're going to need your fix soon, the place is a drug for you and you like getting drug kicking and screaming and lyao the whole way! 😆😉
Busy working today guys, but I'll be around. 😊

I think we will have 3 days each, with a tiny cushion if anyone needs an extra 1/2 day or so. But keep that our little secret!

Hey! 😊.....this helps a lot.....I've got to think about finding my way with the 750 word count (I know that's not our actual number right now, I'm using it as a rule of thumb for the nonce.) ....I'm working from an ONN tablet....and don't think I can find anything like "Word document" or the like, for it. But I'm not worried about that. I think I'll manage to stay as close to whatever our actual word count will be......
Sorry, for digressing there......I'm thinking if the chapter is about 750 words or so....I might be able to get my chapter done a day early or so. Noooo.....I'm not being over ambitious here....when I get into the zone...I get into it. So if I or say someone else manages to finish early....then ...hopefully? It might cut some other people some slack.
Sorry, just chiming in with thoughts off the top of my head. Word count has been on my mind lately. I am looking forward to that next step, determining what it will be.
Going back to work. I hope that makes sense guys don't have time to proof read right now. I'll be around later! Love y'all! 😊

Possibly just as an aside, there must be an invitation to a weekend in the country somewhere in England, with lots of fog & sh-t, and you know hound's tooth jackets. If you show up to a weekend in the country without a hound's tooth jacket, you'd be ostracized!
And also oxe blood loafers.
And there'd be spiritualists, mediums and stabbin's & all that sort of stuff.

Ok... Around here we got hounds. A few ox (well cows) Heard about England but live in the country. Never, ever ever had a jacket or shoes like those in the pics. But maybe for this story I could imagine it...Maybe 🤔

All in fun kidd, it's fiction! Poetic license? If I say I'm in Queensland and I'm a swag-man and leave work and jump on my kangaroo to go into the Australian bush to hunt the dreaded fisher's ghost (btw, real!), or if I say I live in Monterey California and am trying to oust a poltergeist from a haunted gluten free pancake mix barrel in a Trader Joe's, It should be fine! As a reader, you are in for the ride. And unless you are in the upper ranks of British (or American) aristocracy I dismiss your hound's tooth jacket jibes out of hand. Don't tell me I can't look pretty!

Hello folks! In keeping to the time line, I will now post the rules... in really large font size!
1 - Word count - 750 per chapter (first and last chapter will have a waiver on word count) 2 - writing should be done in third person 3 - This is a horror story. Gore, thrills and suspense are expected, but remember that this is a forum open to various ages, etc., so Keep it PG, please! 4 - Unless you are writing the final chapter, your part should advance the story, not end it! Have fun with introducing characters, killing off characters, etc. but don't go rogue and kill everyone off in chapter 2. I will edit you! 5 - Be kind to each other! There are folks from various levels on this project. Some may have never written anything but a to-do list before this. It is not your job to correct their part of the story. Once it's been published, both they and I will be happy with it as it is.
Veteren writers - what have I forgotten that needs to be stated out loud as a rule?
Thanks in advance for your participation and I am looking forward to a great story!

Next on the agenda is establishing writing order. I am not sure how this has worked previously. Prufrock21 has volunteered to write the first chapter. Do you typically have volunteers for first and last? Any objections to doing so for this story?
If anyone else was really set on writing first, I can take those names and do a random draw. Same for ending. All other parts, I will assign by a random drawing. I would like to have this decided by Tuesday, 9/15, so please take a minute to consider it and let me know your thoughts.
Thanks and hope you all are having a great weekend!

Thanks and hope you all are having a great weekend! Sounds good to me. I do think that every writer, except the last writer of course, should be aware that someone will be writing after him and he/she should have as many options as possible to choose from in what direction the story goes. I'm not sure i'm expressing this in a good way but every writer might have that as a thought in the back of their mind that they leave the following author a good starting point. This is, after all, a team effort and thats one way of making it easier for your teammate. You see what i mean? Not really a rule kind of thing, more of a suggestion. Then a question: Shouldn't first and last writer also have some kind of boundary wordwise? I mean it would look a bit strange if first and last chapter were 5000 words long and the rest 750. They should of course be allowed to be longer but i think there should be a limit, say 1500 words or something like it. What do you think?

Don't tell me I can't look pretty! Everything I do and/or post is always in fun sir. My imagination is, shall we say, pretty decent. My posts often reflect my pension for tomfoolery. I present myself as a slightly college educated man who has lived in a rural setting for the majority of my life. In actuality I could be a teenage girl typing from my Manhattan apartment bedroom...Nah but it is a possibility. Finally you sir can look as pretty as you like... Sorta the way I feel about my flannel shirts...
