Favorite covers of Rolling Stones songs (no order)
Johnny Cash - No Expectations
David Bowie - Let's Spend the Night Together
Devo - Satisfaction
Otis Redding - Satisfaction
The Allman Brothers - Heart Of Stone
Elton John - Honky Tonk Women
Little Richard - Brown Sugar
Kiss - 2000 Man
I forgot Otis Redding died so young, I mean he was alive when that song was the new hot single, sure. But he only had about 1-2 years to covered it when he himself was already performing his own songs. Not Stones related, but also on the topic of artists who died too soon covering popular songs in record time, Jimi Hendrix Experience covered Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band 2 days after it first released. It was abridged, sure, but that's still amazing to prepare your own rendition of it so fast as a constantly touring act. JHE is one of those uber recognizable bands, the namesake, at least, that you can't overrate. Recently relistened to all 3 of the OG Experience albums and a few postmortem live album archivals, I forgot how much I loved them. Hendrix slays guitar but I think Mitch Mitchell deserves some credit for some of the killer drums he performed with him, the drums and guitar and manic pace of Fire synergize so well, and I'd argue Fire is one of the most important photo-metal songs of all time. I'd also argue Fire was the earliest influence of the future Speed Metal subgenere, that and Palisade Park by Freddy Cannon (that song is fast as hell for 1962 pop rock standards. I had only heard of it and Cannon this morning when Albert Bouchard mentioned it in one of his latest vlogs as a big influence on his drumming on Hot Rails to Hell, another proto-speed metal song arguably). As far as 60s R&B music, Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett are favorites of mine. Those guys could really sing (and scream ). There are a ton of Otis Redding songs that other bands have covered. Hard To Handle by the Black Crowes, Pain In My Heart by the Stones, Respect by Aretha (she switched genders and made it a women's rights and civil rights anthem) and on and on.
If you ever see the movie of the Monterey Pop Festival, watch it. It has great performances by Otis and Jimi (the famous burning his guitar on stage happened there).

There's something quite charming about covers that go above and beyond and recontextualize the original lyrics into something unique to that artist. Same words, but different meaning.

There's a Depeeche Mode single artwork that is a weird traced version of the Born Again artwork. They're both babies making the exact same pose and expression except the one on the Depeeche Mode artwork isn't made to look demonic and instead is drawn like a normal baby (albeit with a black censor bar where the eyes should be)

The Kingdom of Odin is the Kingdom of Gods
Where only souls of the brave may rest in peace
But someone among them had the skill of deceit
And raised the hand that would open the road to Hell

The most metal he got was the twenty second track on Jesus Christ Superstar, "The Crucifixion", Ian Gillan playing a guy who got nailed to a cross and died to save all the sinners of the world and then came back 3 days later is metal af.

Artists I'm planning to do discog dive/finish the discog of, at least listening to their entire studio discography, now that I've finished Black Sabbath and Grateful Dead's:
Tribe Called Quest (Only one album left, though my friend warns me it's their only bad album, which is sad hearing considering all their other albums are excellent) Kate Bush (two studio albums left, Aerial and 50 Words for Snow) Roxy Music (Only two listened to, For Your Pleasure and Forest Life) Megadeth (Only two listened to, Peace Sells and Rust in Peace) Kanye West (Only two listened to, Late Registration and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, I've been told the mid 2010s is when his music starts to get increasingly questionable. But, as for the two albums I've heard, excellent. I feel like he gets too much flack by people who haven't listened to him and just assume he's a run of the mill superstar rapper. He may not be the smartest man alive, but he's damn passionate about his work, at least in his early years. With lyrics about his life, politics, his perceptions of the world, family, etc. He can write excellent wordplay when he tries. Just look at the lyrics to songs like "Crack Music", "Hey Mama", and "Gorgeous", 3 prime examples of the man's lyrical talent beyond just his general aesthetic)

Just finished The Love Movement, wasn't awful, it just wasn't great. The lyrics were pretty mediocre and Tribe usually excels at interesting and energetic lyrics. But, I can't say it was bad. Here are my scores for all of their studio albums on RateYourMusic.com, my score is the green number to the farthest right and it's on a score of 1-5 (so obviously times that number by 2 to get what my score is out of 10)
