Finished "The Strain".
Don't read it if you've watched the series. It's fckng boring, if you know the show.
I enjoyed the series of books. I got into them because of author Chuck Hogan, and his novel Devils in Exile. I have a signed copy of that book.
All in all, I think that we all have our own opinions of books and authors. I didn't know that Guillermo del Toro wrote novels, until I read The Strain series. I admire his directing style- I think The Shape of Water was just lovely.
Anyway, to each his/her/their own!

Currently on book 4 of Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Series. This book is entitled The Rhythm of War. I'm halfway thru this 1,200 page book and I have an impending sense of doom. No spoilers please. Sanderson has lassoed me by the ankle and is dragging me over all the lumps and bumps that our heroes and heroines suffer. It is easy reading, yes- not Tolstoy or Dostoyevsky - but filled with human frailties, humor, love, kindness and friendship. It won't bend your brain, but it will twist your heart. Apparently Brandon Sanderson plans to have 2 arcs of The Stormlight Series and each will have 5 novels. He has 6 more to write and I hope I live long enough to read them all!
Life Before Death Strength Before Weakness Journey Before Destination
This book is steeped in philosophy without being religious and preachy.

Because I'm in a "let's make fun of Kevin Smith" mood ...
Batman: Cacophony
by Kevin Smith and Walt Flanagan.
Batman: The Widening Gyre
by Kevin Smith and Walt Flanagan
Daredevil: Guardian Devil
by Kevin Smith and Joe Quesada
Green Arrow: Quiver
by Kevin Smith, Phil Hester and Ande Parks
I decided to re-read Kevin Smith's brief foray into the world of comic books to see if they were as bad (and good in some cases) as I remember.
Firstly, let's begin with his Batman books. I thought they were garbage when I was younger and my opinion hasn't changed. The storylines are predictable and uninspired while the artwork is laughably bad. Also, Kevin's terrible stoner dialogue is really odd.
I used to think that his Daredevil book was pretty good when I was younger, but a re-read has changed things considerably. The premise is interesting, but his dialogue, again, is terrible. Also, Daredevil does numerous things which are not in his characters style in order to get the plot to go where Smith wants it to go.
His Green Arrow book has a lot of the same problems his other books do, terrible dialogue, weird characterisation, etc. Also, in every book Kevin writes he has to kill off a beloved fan character for some reason. Why? I don't know.
I think a Tim Burton quote about Kevin Smith sums things up pretty well: "People who know me know I don't read comic books, but even if I did, I wouldn't read anything by Kevin Smith."

The release is still a week or so away but I've seen some reviews for Stephen's new book, Billy Summers and the reviews I've seen are very good.

Today I am reading The Blob in the Bayou by William F. Aicher. It's a nice little novella packed with humor, horror, gore and a great character named Phoenix Bones.
