Attachment DeletedBush beans, marigolds, and cucumbers. The vegetables came from seeds Dio gave me. I should have a harvest by early August.

The only garden produce I've had so far this year - garden onions and cilantro. The cilantro bit the dust after the first cutting. I'm hoping my mom fares better with the basil!

neesy
You asked how my garden was doing...pics above. I can scarcely call my meager plants in three pots a garden but it's a start. Now that the pool is gone, trees cut down, maybe I will have room (and time to plan) a big garden next year. We start putting down seeds as early as February, weather permitting. Did you make a salad with your cherry tomatoes? I think I'm going to make zucchini bread with my leftovers. About two cups full, at least. Anyone have a good recipe for it? Never made it. morgan ?

I had the BEST zucchini bread recipe written down somewhere. It was from a boss I had about five years ago. No idea where it is now. Let me look around and see if I can find anything similar. IIRC it called for nutmeg and pecans.

I have nutmeg and pecans. Thanks, Morgan. Don't go to too much trouble, though.

Sorry but I’m on an iPad so it’s tricky to type I forgot all about this thread but glad I found it again - just waiting for the sunflower seeds to sprout then I’ll put the plants in the ground by the fence

Pictures are beautiful Doc! The Zuck bread sounds great too morgan. Neesy, looking forward to seeing your sunflowers!
Doc Creed, when I get myself organized, I usually start my pepper plants (and tomatoes) from seed in Februrary. Raise them in small pots under bright light on top of the fridge, and a few other warm spots. Then when the ground is warm enough, usually around May, I plant them outside. Done the same with various herbs also. Have waited till as late as June, when I was really busy. The young plants would take off immediately, having a couple of months growth in doors. Like I said in earlier posts, I've learned all I know through trial and error, reading and watching. Thats just what worked for me. I was so proud of my jalapeno plants, they grew up to almost chest level on me and bushed out lushly. Produced tons of fruit! They are attractive plants too. My house faces East, the best sun is out in the front yard, so out front they always go.

I just checked and I have nine seeds starting to sprout which is great. There are three more pots with three seeds in each one but they haven't sprouted yet.
Thinking maybe I will put them over by the fence. There's some compost in the bottom of my composters that needs to be dug out and spread. I'll loosen up the ground first with a big garden fork then incorporate some of that nice black compost. That should help the sunflowers to really take off.

I think I may have killed my cucumber plant; the trauma to the roots when I replanted it in a larger pot and too much water, perhaps? To my surprise, the extra seeds that I "threw away" in the back yard took root and are growing like wildfire. I almost mowed it down because I thought it was kudzu but bees feeding on the yellow flowers made me stop, plus the leaves were a healthier dark green. In a few weeks I hope to have some cucumbers.

Good luck with the cukes, Doc! P.S. Will you be making me some dill pickles?

That's funny - you sound like Jack and the Beanstalk's Mom - she threw away the magic beans and they grew!

Yes, just like that! LOLIn the past when I had a cockatiel I would dump one feeder of seed into the other, in the wind, to blow away the chaff. I used to do this right outside my front door, sort of hanging over the porch.
A sunflower managed to take root and grew quite high.
This reminds me - I should go check on my sunflowers and see how they are doing. - I have 16 of them in a row in the back garden.
When they get bigger I hope to be able to take a few pics.
Just realized it is already July 26th so I guess they only have about 9 or 10 more weeks to grow before the cooler weather sets in. I hope we have a nice mild "Indian Summer" as they used to call that time in late September when it is still very nice out.
