Leap Year (2010). Thought I'd seen this before, but I was wrong. A sappy rom-com, but it was still cute.
(Hey @woowoo001 I don't think you replied to my post on the SKMB. Why do you think I would like the movie The Swimmer?)
Just from the movies you've mentioned liking, punk!
The Swimmer, based on a John Cheever short-story, is the oddity of Hollywood oddities. I put it almost in the same category as art films like After Hours (1985) or Liquid Sky (1982)! Someone cast socially adrift and grasping onto whatever they can.
Some find it brilliant. A very young Joan Rivers even appears for a few minutes. Here, The Swimmer, one mo' time!

I've heard about this movie - isn't it Burt Lancaster and he goes swimming in his neighbor's pools? (something like that) - I need to go check this out!

Released on Netflix this weekend; I watched it today. Netflix is slowly demonstrating that it's more than just a dumping ground for films that are little better than direct-to-video fare, and this is a prime example. It is a well-done thriller with some surprising twists and a show-stopper of an event that takes place halfway through. You guys need to check this one out. That looks interesting. Maybe i'm gonna watch it at the Weekend, thanks for the hint Cool. Lemme know what you think afterwards.

But it views better on a big screen. Yeah, Burt Lancaster is some sort of an ad executive with seemingly a perfect life & family, who one morning gets the idea of swimming all the way home using his neighbors & friends pools. Slowly you get the idea something is very wrong. Dude was about 55 at this time & in incredible shape! Maybe the only film ever where an actor does the entire film in nothing but swim trunks. If you google "Burt Lancaster the swimmer" neeze, you can see his butt! He has nudist friends who insist if you come on their property you go commando.

The Swimmer. Great short story by John Cheever. If i'm not mistaken, he also wrote for the Twilight Zone.

You make me laugh - thanks!
Not sure I want to see Burt Lancaster's naked butt but the idea of the movie is interesting.
He had a very distinctive way of speaking, didn't he?
Happy Taco Tuesday, GrinWillard!

We rented Jumanji—Welcome to the Jungle. It is laugh out loud funny.
You know how sometimes, the ads for a movie look funny, but then when you actually watch it...those were the only funny scenes and in context they are not as funny as you thought they would be? This movie is not like that. In context, some of the jokes are even funnier.
i highly recommend,

Saw the new Halloween earlier this afternoon. I never was a fan of the slasher genre, and I only saw Carpenter's original film a month or two ago. This new sequel is an absolute firecracker. I saw H20 some years back, as well as Rob Zombie's two remakes. The creative talents behind the new film went back to basics with John Carpenter's idea for the original: keep it simple, stupid. This is a heck of a great thriller and if Toni Collette manages to get Oscar attention for Hereditary, then I think Jamie Lee Curtis is also deserving of same. She is that good here. Please support this in your local theatre if you can.

Needed a break from the dark movies I watched all month. Re-watched Sex and the City 2 and one other silly rom-com that I can't remember right now. (rofl)

Chinatown, classic detective noire movie that I’m sure most of you have seen. My first time watching it, I really enjoyed it. Jack Nicholson really plays a gritty detective character like Jake Gettis really well. 9.5/10 “Forget it Jake, it’s Chinatown.”

How about a SciFi Movie Marathon ?? If it's the one with Toby Stephens, then you made a good choice.

I watched 'The Equalizer' with Denzel Washington this afternoon. I really liked it. Earlier this week I watched 'Deepwater Horizon' with Kurt Russell and Mark Wahlberg. Highly recommend it. It's a true story.

I'm watching (re-watching) Navy Seals with Charlie Sheen and Michael Biehn.
Red Dawn (the original) is up next (on edit, I totally forgot that Charlie Sheen was in this as well), then Heartbreak Ridge.
Yes, busy week behind me and a busier one ahead, so no going out today.

I figured out why I don't like the Queen biopic, apart from it being PG-13. This band made music like no other in the 70s, was led by the best front-man in Rock (sorry Mick Jagger, you're second) who due to his ambiguous nature was mercilessly hounded by the press at the height of AIDS paranoia in the 80s, and generally did whatever they wanted. Being politically correct was never their thing.
But in the scene featuring this song, the chorus gets muted. If Freddie was still alive, that never would have happened. Eff this movie.

It's a shame you did not like this movie but overall I enjoyed it, whether it was politically correct or not. I liked it so much I wanted to go see it again!
