I'm going to try and catch Hereditary this weekend before it disappears. I still want to see The Avengers and Deadpool.

I saw Christine tonight on Superchannel Vault - it's really quite good, even on a rewatch. John Carpenter is a great director and I loved the music and special effects. I love Carpenter's work. I enjoy his lesser films much more than Halloween.....................................................................

Sounds like that animal that sometimes sounds like it's trying to scratch its way into my roof/attic.
It's always worse at night or in the very early morning hours.

There appears to be a Stephen King marathon on right now - first it was the old It (the one that lasts about five hours), now Stand By Me is on, plus Misery is coming up and also the new It movie - I'm going to record the It movie from 2017.
morgan - it's on M3 (Movie Network) just in case you get that channel.
My son is glued to the TV - he likes this sort of stuff too.

I don't do the Netflix or go out all that much - we're probably paying too much for our Shaw (internet, phone and cable).
There's so much junk on TV plus the commercials drive me nuts. So how do you watch movies? I'm guessing online?
We just had another big thundershower here! Maybe it will be a bit damp for fireworks tonight.

Yes, pretty much just Netflix. But they don't have much I want to watch lately. At least I have DVDs of some of my favorites. I will not watch network TV because of the commercials.

Last night I tried to watch the original A Star is Born (1976 I believe). Only made it halfway through. I love Kris Kristofferson. Heard they're doing a reboot of this movie that will be released later this year starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. Not sure how I feel about that.

I know how I feel, I feel like I'm not gonna go see it! I get A Star is Born mixed up with The Rose, the Bette Midler movie. But I know there was an old version with James Mason in the Chris Kristofferson part. Yeah, I know.

Watched Birthmarked (2018) last night on Netflix. Interesting, but not great IMO. I love Toni Collette. Heard her latest movie Hereditary is scary as h*ll.

The Long Goodbye - Elliot Gould directed by Robert Altman
I've seen this one a few times and like it a lot. Robert Altman pissed people off by not making Phillip Marlowe a Humphrey Bogart clone. I love Altman movies and how he liked to piss people off by not doing what was expected.

I saw that too (that thing about the remake, plus they showed a couple of scenes). I like Bradley Cooper plus I think Lady Gaga has a really good voice so I hope it turns out well.
I watched a documentary about Elvis Presley's life and the first part showed the early years.
I recorded the second part which I'll watch today. It's amazing how good looking he was. In the past I wasn't a big fan, but after watching him sing in this movie I was impressed with how much soul he had and how bluesy he could get. He looks sort of Native American with that black hair and tan skin. [what a hunka hunka burnin' love!]

Was cloning a thing back then?!!!! Could they have actually cloned Bogey? OMG, that'd have been sweet. I saw part of this film on teevee long ago, but can't remember much. If I remember right, a lady got hit in the face with a bottle, which made me think, "oh screw this," and I switched the channel to The Smurfs. Or something. The level of unpleasantness was too much, and I'm sorry that scene is still in my brain. Pissing people off, huh? Yeah, that was Robert Altman's whole thing I guess. The thing that put breath into his lungs and gave him the grit to hop out of the bunk & face yet another day.
So he'd go to a meeting with film executives at Paramount, and explain, "I like pissin' people off! Can I have 20 million dollars?" Looking chagrined, they replied, "Uh, no. You know who doesn't go to the movies? Pissed off people! That doesn't put butts in seats! Why don't you just walk down the street & call people fat? That'll piss them off!" And a fledgling film career ended before it ever began.
LOL. Just kidding. Ebert gave it a nice review. I just read it! It's probably the closest I'll come to seeing the film. Previously, I've confused it with the Paul Newman vehicle, The Drowning Pool.

The Drowning Pool was a Ross MacDonald book. The Drowning pool was a sequel to Harper (based on the Ross Macdonald Book The Moving Target)

I haven't bothered with much hard-boiled detective fiction, but I've long assumed Dashiell Hammett was the SK of that sort of thing. Maybe because he had such a cool name & lived an interesting life. Lillian Hellman didn't do his reputation much harm. But in modern times I'm hearing that Chandler is considered, of the two, the superior writer. I remember seeing a quote saying that Ross Macdonald, in his day, had Stephen King-like sales. I'm sure that's an exaggeration!

I watched Fog Island (1945) on the firestick. Crazy wealthy man (George Zucco) with grudges invites former associates to an island to exact revenge! That just works for me somehow. It was pretty good!
