annamarie Those are magnificent. I used to do a lot of that type crafting, but the fingers and eyes no longer co operate. Your work are treasures.

I took my grandson to Pioneer Village and we were looking at some of the embroidery pictures hung on the walls. I was explaining about samplers, funeral pictures, and how embroidery was a sign of wealth. Then I said, I wonder if 100 years from now any of my pictures will hang in a museum. And he said it absolutely will because my pictures are much nicer. 😁

Awwww - that is so cute! How old is he? I think they also used to be done to show the needlework skills of young women or girls i.e. they knew the alphabet (or something like that) - I've seen some on the Antiques Roadshow
My grandmother on my Dad's side was a whiz - she could take an old flour sack and turn it into a beautiful pillowcase
