A contest in abuse of a movie....?? It won't all be abuse. There are several of us who enjoy it. This will make for an interesting debate.

It was only like an hour and a half too, yet felt like hours. I think Idris Elba could've made a really good Roland if only the script and... everything else, was better.

Admitting that Elba can be a good actor in this movie he, as everything else about it, acting, script, directing, scenery ranged from Very unconvincing to outright bad. One of the bigger flops in the King movieverse in my view.

One of the bigger flops in the King movieverse in my view. Sure. I just think he, hypothetically, could have done the role decently. I mean I think some fans idealize the idea of Clint Eastwood playing Roland in a potential film when that obviously wouldn't work considering the dude is like in his 90s and has moved more to directing. Deepfaking could be plausible but probably too expensive to do realistic as possible for an entire movie or tv show or whatever. But, if the actual appearance Roland is described of in the book can't be plausibly accomplished, might as well turn to just actors who can do the rough drifter personality in general. Honestly, though I get fantasy isn't his thing at all, I'd be interested to see how Eastwood would direct a Dark Tower movie if he was given director's chair, being a veteran of westerns and crime films and all.

Agreed to that. Interesting idea about Eastwood directing. Sure, Elba, with the right surroundings could have played the character well i think. How old do you think Roland should be in a hypothetical movie??

How old do you think Roland should be in a hypothetical movie?? I never thought Elba would be a good Roland. After his chase, and palaver with Walter i always imagined the Gunslinger from "Preacher" as Roland.

I have always figured Roland to be a bit younger, at least in appearance, than this grizzlied greybeard. But i guess Dominic Cooper is in the right agerange, (hes about 40 right?). Here he looks like 55-60 which i think is to old for the character.

How old do you think Roland should be in a hypothetical movie?? He shouldn't be a teenager, which was what they were going for in the Amazon Dark Tower pilot. I'm glad it didn't go to series, I never liked The Wizard in Glass.

There is some time between those two events - probably a few years. It is likely Roland is in his early thirties at the beginning of The Gunslinger.

I've been putting if off...but when I can, I'm going to catch up on my "Preacher" epicsodes. Great series.

I just can't imagine a pretty young(good shaved) guy like Elba, say:
"Kill if you will, but command me nothing!

Wasn't exactly sure where to put this post so I'll put it here. There is a new and long overdue blu-ray of The Dead Zone. This site gives it a good review and lists the special features.
