11:45 a.m. here so here is the question of the day.
If you could invite 3 persons from any time period over for lunch, who would they be ? Awwww.....only 3, really!? Com'mon....I'm gonna squeeze one more in there. ( Sigh, I'll put myself in the Penalty Box later.)
Alexander the Great. St. Francis of Assisi. Quannah Parker. Tom Petty.
Then on another day.....
Hunter S. Thompson. (...he can bring the rum, but has to leave the LSD at home...and Laslo.) Charles Bukowsky. Ernest Hemingway. George Carlin.
Then on another day......
Robert Frost. Oscar Wilde. Emily Dickinson. Mos Def.
Then on another day......
William Shakespeare. Lewis Carroll. Maya Angelou. Edgar Allan Poe.
The lists go on....
(yeah, I know. Bad Wolf.)

I would certainly like to know what Alexander the Great and Mr Tom Petty would discuss.

What do people most compliment you on? My bluntless. LOL. People say it's my ability to meet a person and in less than half an hour people seem to think we've been friends for years.

LOL. At least they'll get first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. But they'll probably blow that too. 😡

What do people most compliment you on? For King Kurb @kurben , it would be his knowledge of history. Thanks awfully. But actually recently it has been the order i had in the archive where i worked. The boss there was history interested and we had some debates about the Goths and their origin. He held the opinion that they had to have originated in sweden, either in the landscape of Götaland or on the island of Gotland. It is, of course, possible but the first we know of them is in northern Poland. I said it would be to take national interpretation too far and that the got sound just as well may have had a meaning like the people that many people called themselfes before there were nations. Then different people may have had similar names even though not related. Hence Götar in Götaland, Goter in Gotland and Juter in the danish island of Jylland. But it was an interesting discussion for a coffebreak.

But it was an interesting discussion for a coffebreak. Charlemagne went to war with the Goths, didn't he? Or am I thinking of someone/people else. Someone else i should say. The goths founded two great kingdoms, the Ostrogothic in Italy and the Visigothic in France/Spain. At its biggest it was encompassed about half of todays france and all of Spain. But the Merovingic Frankish king Clovis I attacked and by 508 had wrestled almost all land north of the pyrenees from the Visigoths into frankish hands. One of his successors Childebert slayed the visigothic king in battle in 531 and things look dark for the visigoths. But when Liuvigild became visigothic king in 569 he was a strong military commander and made sure Spain at least was in certain visigothic control. He made peace with the franks by royal marriages. His successors were able to hold on to the kingdom in spite of internal fights which lead to the kingdom being relatively weak when the arabs came and conquered them in 711. Both gothic kingdoms were dead and buried by the time of charlemagne. I think that the king you have in mind might be Clovis. Or you might be thinking of his wars against the Lombards (langobards) (means long beards)that was the people that carved out a kingdom in italy after the ostrogoths had fallen during the 6,th century.
