This is about the only productive thing I did during lockdown, I wish I had done it earlier in to it, instead I started it about 6 weeks into it. I bought a Harley Benton D.C (double cut) kit guitar to put together and make my own. It started like this.
For the body I sanded it using 100, 180, and 320 grit sandpaper, stained it with a mixture of Indian rosewood and Jacobean dark oak, and for the glossy finish I used a nitrocellulose lacquer. I left the neck as it felt really nice and was already finished with a thin satin coating. I had to make a notched straight edge to straighten the neck and a sanding beam to sand down the frets to level them, reshape them and polish them with wire wool. This was a tedious process but worth it. After reassembly with the parts included it looked like this.
For the final pictures I need another post, lol. So t.b.c...

I decided to make 2 visual upgrades - the knobs and tuners. The knobs were purely aesthetic - I just love top hat knobs.
Attachment Deleted
The tuners were absolutely essential if I wanted it to stay in tune or to even move properly. The ones provided were useless, they were stiff on some, and had way too much travel on others. I bought some vintage Kluson style jade tulip locking tuners. A £20 upgrade that made all the difference. The final touch was my own logo (my initials) which I created in photoshop and printed on waterslide paper.
The kit itself cost me a stupidly cheap £77, and I spent about the same again on the parts and mattereals.
The finished article. Attachment Deleted

Nice work, Anthony. 👏😎 That’s not something I could do in a million years, even with a kit and instructions. I’m impressed!

That's incredible! Beautiful work - maybe you should take this up as a hobby (how does it sound?)

Thanks, it sounds really good, so much better than anything you would expect from such a cheap guitar. It could easily become a hobby, I may do another 1 somewhere down the line, it would be a telecaster if i did in shell pink.

I just finished this bag for my youngest son’s girlfriend. When I showed her the picture, she said it reminded her of ice cream flavors,so that's good, I think..?🍦

Neapolitan ice cream
We sometimes called it Napoleon (don't know why)
If it's crocheted how do you stop the stuff from falling out? Do you line it?

I do line the crocheted bags sometimes, but she's just gonna use this one for swimming stuff--towel, sunscreen, etc, nothing tiny that would fall out. If I leave it unlined like this, it'll dry faster when she throws wet swimming stuff in it. And I call that ice cream Napoleon, too--can't even tell you how many times I get corrected. My brain just doesn't want to say it the right way. sommer-eis-smilie_012

What’s everyone working on these days? I got a whole lotta sewing going on. One of my sons teaches art at an elementary school that will probably just stick with online learning until Labor Day or there abouts. He’s putting together art supplies for kids who don’t have them at home and Ol’ Ma ( that’s me) was asked to make some bags/ cases for him to fill with stuff. This is what I got so far.

Me too. I got some Harry Potter, Star Wars, Marvel and Snoopy material that I haven't started using yet, so I'll have to post more pics when I make some with those designs .

I have a ridiculous amount of that yarn, so all the bag is, is two great big granny squares for the front and back.I added borders to the top and bottom to make it rectangular. And then just a strip for the handle. I didn't have to change colors or anything, so it was very easy and just a fun project to work on while watching tv. I have so much of that yarn left, I could make her a matching blanket ...if she wanted one.
