mary, noticed you had mentioned never learned to knit. Here is an easy craft: Finger knitting. You can make scarves, shawls, blankets. Attaching rows is a simple weave stitch catching the outer loop.
Note: to free up you fingers I designed a simple fix: four pen markers stuck into some flower foam. (will attempt a pic later)

My daughter tends to be artistic and likes to crochet. This past Christmas she made all the ladies of our family gathering group a scarf she designed. It was a long scarf but had a hoodie in the center so that you could cover your head and wrap it around your neck for really cold days. She used black yarn with a gold or silver thread in it so we could feel dressed up as well as toasty warm.

It's a great idea Mary. Can you post a picture?

I've just been checking out videos on YouTube about making your own adjustable crochet face masks - they recommend you put a filter in it or wear it over a disposal mask.
I think you can just put a coffee filter or even a piece of paper towel inside (still looking at various videos)
Some of them use organic cotton fabric inside

This is really nice. Did you knit it with that marker/finger knitting technique? I'm a beginner at knitting--just really getting the hang of it and learning not to drop stitches, etc after a year of practice. I've been crocheting since I was 12 (I'm 53) , but knitting is SOoooo much harder to learn! I have tremendous respect for all the knitters out there now that I know how easy it isn't!

Yes, the scarf was done via finger knitting. Very quick and easy. Crocheting is my thing, knitting take coordination.

The last few days I have been working on an afghan made with granny squares - colours are yellow, light turquoise blue, and purple with a bit of black and burgundy.
Now I am attaching all the squares together by using a single crochet stitch with a lighter lavender colour - it makes ridges on the good side of the project but I like the effect.
Once that is all done I will go around a few times to finish it off with the left over colours from the project.
It's just a small lap blanket but I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will turn out nice.

Nice! Is there anything in the world that can’t be made out of Granny Squares? It seems like once you get the hang of those, you can crochet a whole world made out of yarn. At least that’s what I’d like to do. 🤪 Your blanket will be beautiful.🌸

neesy Wicked Esther You should try making hats out of granny squares. I've seen them on etsy and they are adorable! I would if I could, but I only crochet in circles to make hats and don't know how to read patterns.

🤔 I like that idea. I’ve made blankets, bags, coin purses, pillow covers, and even doll clothes from granny squares, but no hats yet.... I’m gonna try it. By the way, I can’t read patterns either. I know what the abbreviations mean for different stitches, so I just kinda cheat and eyeball it! If I have a picture to show me what a finished project is supposed to look like, I can usually manage something pretty close to it. 😉

Thanks spideyman ! I need to watch some YouTube crocheting videos to learn a basic granny square. I'm a hands-on learner - need to see it done.
