The critics are full of crap. I saw it, I liked it tremendously, it was a fitting end to the saga. I'll discuss further when more of you have seen it. Post your thoughts below (be mindful of spoilers though).

F**k critics, as soon as someone has a run of success (in this case Stephen King)they que up to put the boot in and rip them to shreds regardless of how good the work is. I saw It Chapter 2 and thoroughly enjoyed it, the cast were all great and Skarsgard once again hit the mark with his portrayal of Pennywise. Creepy creepy creepy.... If you enjoyed Chapter 1 then Chapter 2 should push all the right buttons for you.

Throwing in my two cents on IT Part 2 - thought it was OK.
The movie just tried to do too much and fell victim to the popularity of the first one.
The lure of bringing back the kids proved too strong but is part of the undoing of this movie. While I liked the structure of the second movie aping the book - carrying the kid and adult threads - it puts the second movie off-balance from the first.
If intercutting between the storylines is going to be used - then part 1 should have be done the same way. The net result is the adults end up under-served in the second movie.
Also while Hader was funny, I found his continual one-liners undercut any tension that was being built-up, not something you want to do in this type of movie.
What would be great to see is a supercut of the two movies that follows the book's structure. Believe that would be the premium way to enjoy this adaptation.

I think I'm in the minority, but I didn't like it very much. The movie is very well-made; I guess it's just me. I think it's because the book is just so dear to me, no movie could ever capture the essence of it. Chapter I came quite close when it comes to the atmoshpere though, but II was just off in so many ways for me. So I'll just keep it short and emphasize the good points. Basically the only things I liked were:

I liked the cast's chemistry but, again, the excessive humor robbed me of having a truly good experience. Oh, and the romance thing between Ben and Bev was painfully heavy-handed. That kiss: eye roll.
Am I crapping on this movie? I hope it doesn't sound like that. There is a lot to like. I thought the Derry Festival scenes were a nice touch and interesting to see since some of them existed in the novel.
Question: Why were the Losers chanting "turn our light into darkness", or something like that. It didn't make any sense. Common sense tells us that we should say, "turn our darkness into light", or "give us light"...the only thing I could think of was they were referring to the "deadlights", which even in the book doesn't really make much sense. Illuminate a guy. Stop me before I think of any more puns.

I enjoyed it, I saw it twice in the theater. There were some things I didn't like that they changed or modified but let's face movies will never be 100%. There will always be changes for length or story speed. I'll avoid spoilers here but there is a lot that's greats and few things that could have been better. That begin said I say see the movie.

Loved chapter one, HATED chapter two. Just a buncha CGI. And Peter Bogdanovich?

I hoped to watch this over the weekend, but was disappointed to find out I need HBO Go to stream it.
I think Doctor Sleep is on there, too, so guess I should look into that channel.

Just watched IT last night. It's not bad, but had the last hour or so been as good as the beginning, I think it would've made much better than "not bad".
A bit too much special effects for my taste.

It was not a good movie. It wasn't crappy but worse than the first that was OK even if that had it flaws too. A meh-movie.

I have it TIVO’d but haven’t watched it yet. I understand this new one runs closer to the book than the miniseries done in 1990 (hard to believe that was 30 years ago). For the people that have seen it, is that true?

The original was close at times and totally off at other times, the new one is close more often than the 1990 version but also off at times but the changes the new version made, they're vastly better. The biggest change, in the novel and the 1990 mini series, they're boomers, in the new one, they're X'ers. All in all, I think you'll prefer the newer version over the 1990 version, it also has a far better cast, kid wise and adult wise. No disrespect to Ritter and the others but they didn't have the chemistry that the newer cast had. |
