I first read The Stand when I was 10.
There were a LOT of words I didn't understand, but I knew exactly what was going on.
Beat the hell out of the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew books, for sure.

Beat the hell out of the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew books, for sure. One of the first few novels of his I ever read, still one of the best loved ones, in my book. Did you read the shorter edition first? I have no idea what vintage you are. Lol, I read the shorter version, probably around '87 or '88 maybe. I was in or around 20 at the time. I thoroughly enjoyed them both.

I started with the Uncut version and then, cause i was curious, I read the original. I loved both but since I am someone who doesn't like novels to end I enjoyed the Uncut on better. It was the first book i got from the SK library. Long story (I could tell it sometime) I have to sneak my SK books when i was younger lol

My whole family, aside from my grandpa, was against me reading SK books. He signed me up for the SK Library and my earlier books came to his house. Eventually my mother made peace with (she did like some of the movies).

My mom was big on Carrie, Shawshank, and the Green Mile Nice. My Dad was the one who got me into SK. He gave me Different Seasons when I was 12, and Carrie next. It went on from there. We still share books and I try to watch a lot of the movies with him.

I think she loves Shawshank almost as much as I do. We watch it together a few times a year.

I am rereading the Stand and a random thought came to me...the scene where we are introduced to Lloyd almost sounds like the beginning to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Two guys, stoned out of their minds, driving through the desert
