I find myself between authors and keep up with a dozen or so "favorites". If I pick something I like, usually will read all the library has of that author. Tami Hoag was the last one and only one of her books was not worth it. Of course the library doesn't have a full set of anything because it's a poor county. The library is in an old cast off U. S. Post Office building, so no where to expand on the three block downtown area. I have a bad feeling about where the old books go. I noticed they had to replace some of the older SK books with paperbacks. Anyway, I need an author and search for cops and docs with forensics. The author has to pass a test before I even check what the story is about. Mike Connally, David Baldacci and John Grisham have gold stars.
I have already been through Tess Gerritsen and the "Bones" writer. Read a few of Harlan Coben. When I Googled Jeffrey Deavers, the page had several other writer names on it. Thank you, everyone.
Baldacci is a great novelist. I didn't like his first book though.
A great Baldacci Book is "The whole Truth" It's a great Topic (Perceptions Management)
Did you read it yet ?

Herzog by Saul Bellow and H is for Hawk by Helen MacDonald.
When I go to the book store I'm going to look for Those Who Wish Me Dead by Michael Koryta and Mine by Robert McCammon.

In a Stephen King interview I watched recently he spoke about a book called, The Hair of Harold Roux, and I've been thinking about it ever since. It's a novel about a writer writing a novel, basically. It is supposed to be a story within a story and complex in how it reveals a writer fashioning a novel through false starts, rabbit trails, and woven ideas like magpies gathering scraps of junk. It is written by Thomas Williams, to whom Nightmares and Dreamscapes is dedicated. Williams' novel was tied for the National Book Award for fiction in 1970. Has anyone read it?
I like books where the main character shows the trials and intricacies of a writer grinding out a novel. Sometimes the process is mundane and other times fascinating. John Irving does this in books like The World According to Garp and A Widow For One Year; in the former novel we even get to see Garp's book in progress. Stephen King has done this in notable books like The Dark Half and Different Seasons ("The Body"). Thomas Williams' book is supposed to take it to a higher level.

Finally finished One Door Away from Heaven by Koontz. What a wacky book. I did enjoy the last quarter (and actually teared up at one point). So, in that regard, I'm glad I stuck with it.
Started a Stevie Nicks biography Lady of the Stars. It's poorly written, but I'm hoping the content will be worth it. There are a lot of quotes from interviews with Nicks along with tour photos. Only 110 pages total, so should be a quick read.

That bio was horrible! So many typos. Tragic. Probably the worst thing I've ever seen in print.
I'm going to start A Prayer for Owen Meany by Irving. I'm excited about it.

I'm going to have to read up on this Mr. Koryta - I've only heard about him on the SKMB and here.
morgan bummer on the bad book. I'd like to read a biography on Stevie Nicks, but a good one - one she authorized. I wonder if she ever will.
I finished The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - a little bit chic lit, but not completely. It was good and it made me cry. It made me realize my power and weakness and explained some misunderstandings I've had.
I just started Rabbit Cake last night - thanks to a rec by doccreed - you are totally right - it is exactly my kind of book. I'm loving it. I think it will be a quick read.

hollygolightly I'm going to try Gold Dust Woman: The Biography of Stevie Nicks by Stephen Davis (as soon as I can find a copy at a decent price). I think part of the reason she doesn't authorize any books about her is because she's been talking about publishing her own since the early eighties! Not sure why she hasn't done it yet - she's been writing and journaling throughout her entire career. She must have more than enough material for several books!

Reference Michael Koryta books:
morgan and hollygolightly-----
Note that three of his books have a supernatural theme: So Cold The River/ The Cypress House/The Ridge.
The Prophet is a totally stand alone book-- his first written at age 20. So good. And he improved by bounds. Most are a crime drama, detective, mystery theme.
Those Who Wish Me Dead-- as cat said-- you will not be disappointed!!
Have read four of his and now working on Last Words.

Now, i don't know what to read next. The Regulators, Cujo or Lisey's Story ?? Agreeing with Doc- Lisey's Story. It will be different. A dual story her's in the present and her husbands. I've heard Steve say this is his favorite of all he had written. I;ve read it twice- two different times in my life. Do you know the inspiration for it?
The genesis for Lisey's Story was an incident in June 1999 in which King was hit by a van in Lovell, Maine, and seriously injured; while he was in the hospital, his wife Tabitha decided to redesign his studio. Coming home from the hospital and seeing his books and belongings in boxes, King saw an image of what his studio would look like after his death

I think I set a new record for myself - I was reading five books at the same time. I'm too mentally scattered for such nonsense! Finished Killing Monica which was smut and am almost done with One Less Problem Without You by Beth Harbison (which is also pretty trashy). I wanted some light-hearted and effortless reading, but fear I may now be brain dead.
