I think I set a new record for myself - I was reading five books at the same time. I'm too mentally scattered for such nonsense! Finished Killing Monica which was smut and am almost done with One Less Problem Without You by Beth Harbison (which is also pretty trashy). I wanted some light-hearted and effortless reading, but fear I may now be brain dead.
Usually i'm reading 2 books at the same time. One Book is for In- the other one for Outdoor reading.
Outdoor Book is still Lisey's Story the Indoor Book is Eternity by Tamara Thorne

Outdoor Book is still Lisey's Story the Indoor Book is Eternity by Tamara Thorne That's kind of how it started for me too. One book in the living room, one in my bag for out of the house. Another I started at B&N. Then decided to add a non-fiction book to the mix. Well, you can see how this problem escalated.

Now reading "So Cold The River" by Koryta. So far has me hooked. I can handle 2 books at a time, more than that, I tend to confuse and lose characters.

I'm hoping to start one of his books this weekend. Am really looking forward to it since I've never read any of his work. I found a couple of his books (used) online.

I started listing to Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn Let us know what you think of it. I keep seeing that book at B&N and Walmart and have been thinking about picking it up. I haven't read anything by Gillian Flynn. But it must be pretty good since it was turned into a TV series.

They tend to be dark and have tone of twist and turns.

I stopped by a garage sale on my way home yesterday. Found a like new paperback of You Will Know Me by Megan Abbott for $1. I'm sure this book has been discussed since there is a rec from SK on the front cover. I'm about 75 pages into it and have been hooked since the first few pages.

I'm reading Streets of Laredo; I'm in the mood for McMurtry and I own several of his books. One can never guess what his characters will do or say next.

doccreed - I am a McMurtry fan from a long time ago. I was intrigued when I saw Terms of Endearment and wanted to read that and everything else by him. I haven't read Streets of Laredo but I've no doubt it's good. His characters always leave an impression and I miss them when I finish the book. Much like SK in that regard.
I'm reading the most recent O Henry Short Story collection - I forgot I had it, so that was a nice surprise! I can't get sucked into a good book right now. But after next weekend, I'm free!!!
edited to say: O Henry Awards Collection - O. Henry has not been with us since 1910, but his style lives on!

I am almost done listing to NOS4A2 by Joe Hill. If anyone ever gets chance to listen to it Kate Mulgrew dose really great job. It will send chills up your spine when she dose the voice of Charles Manx. I like the story...however I got to warn people he tends to leave things hanging for a few. Meaning he stops what he talking about turns back to it later. Or will say tiny bit of answer later but not fully. It has some deep feelings in it...but it is fun to listen to.

Just finished Michael Koryta's If She Wakes. Add it to your list-- a real page turner.

Finished Those Who Wish Me Dead by Michael Koryta. At first I thought it was going to be a little too much outdoors/camping/wilderness type stuff (which isn't really my thing). But about eight chapters in, I started getting attached to the characters and the book turned out to be fantastic. I wasn't expecting to get that emotionally invested, and it was just so good. Thumbs up!

Thumbs up! Whoa! Eight chapters in to get hooked. I'm glad it ended up being worth the investment of time and compassion! I don't know if I could stick with it. I usually give a book 25/30 pages and if I'm not in, I bail. Some fair weathered reader I am!
I found Liane Moriarty's Truly, Madly, Guilty at the GW a few weeks ago. It's so-so. I'm not hooked yet, but I've only given it 20 pages - I'll give it 10 more. I've got Tortilla Curtain lined up next!

The setting and background were making me uneasy and I was being ridiculous.

I need to read O'Henry. I've only read one of his stories. I'm told he had an affinity for twist endings. Yeah, I miss McMurtry's characters each time, too. Right now I'm following the chronological books which feature Duane and Jacy- they first appear as teenagers in The Last Picture Show.
