I had a dream last night I discovered a new species of Beetle with a head that was T shaped, like a Hammerhead shark. There is a creature alive today which has survived millions of years of evolution...without change, without passion, without logic. It lives to kill. A mindless eating machine, it will attack and devour anything. Try to imagine meeting BEETLE JAWS.

...actually not an insect, but a crustacean. Thought that little factoid was interesting.

One time when I was 6 I collected a bunch of them from the front yard and put them in a little cage, they didn’t last very long as my mom decided feeding them an entire, full size orange was a good idea. I don’t really know the science behind it but I’m pretty sure they overate or something, because they died shortly after snacking on a fruit that’s like 50 times their body size

I wonder if it was the acid in the orange that did them in?
Incidentally I just logged back in and I see I have 19 notifications waiting for me.
We don't have pill bugs up here but we have these bugs that look similar
It's called a wood louse (you normally find them in damp places and under rocks)

....same here. (Looks a lot like what we have. Must be another variety or something.) Just not so rounded in the lower body. I think. You find most doodle bugs in damp cool shady places, around and under old rocks and wood....They're sort of 'land bottom feeders'. Not unlike crustaceans in a way. We used to love playing with them when we were kids.🙂 I think it's interesting that crabs and lobsters are related to insects. Distantly, I believe. I bet the great Swedish Indiana Jones, @kurben , might know. 🙂

I remember the first time I saw a universal remote control. I thought "this changes everything!"
a plateau is the highest form of flattery
Nothing is so permanent as a temporary government program
I googled "how to start a fire" and got 800 matches
A friend of mine thinks he may be a direct descendent of Quasimodo but it's just a hunch
"I stand corrected" said the man with orthopedic shoes
• How does Moses make tea? Hebrews it.
• Venison for dinner again? Oh deer!
• A cartoonist was found dead in his home. Details are sketchy.
• I used to be a banker, but then I lost interest.
• Haunted French pancakes give me the crêpes.
• England has no kidney bank, but it does have a Liverpool.
• I tried to catch some fog, but I mist.
• They told me I had type-A blood, but it was a Typo.
• I changed my iPod's name to Titanic. It's syncing now.
• Jokes about German sausage are the wurst.
• I know a guy who's addicted to brake fluid, but he says he can stop any time.
• I stayed up all night to see where the sun went, and then it dawned on me.
• This girl said she recognized me from the vegetarian club, but I'd never met herbivore.
• When chemists die, they barium.
• I'm reading a book about anti-gravity. I just can't put it down.
• I did a theatrical performance about puns. It was a play on words.
• Why were the Indians here first? They had reservations.
• I didn't like my beard at first. Then it grew on me.
• Did you hear about the cross-eyed teacher who lost her job because she couldn't control her pupils?
• When you get a bladder infection, urine trouble.
• Broken pencils are pointless.
• What do you call a dinosaur with an extensive vocabulary? A thesaurus.
• I dropped out of communism class because of lousy Marx.
• All the toilets in New York's police stations have been stolen. The police have nothing to go on.
• I got a job at a bakery because I kneaded dough.
• Velcro - what a rip off!
• Don’t worry about old age; it doesn’t last.

I bet the great Swedish Indiana Jones, @kurben , might know. 🙂 Distantly is correct. Both Crustaceans, like crabs and shrimps, and Insects belong to the phylum Arthropoda but are of totally different class. The main differences are that all insects have three bodyparts, head, thorax and abdomen while crustaceans have two, head and thorax. Also insects have 6 legs while crustaceans have at least 8 and often more. Another class is the Arachnids or spiders. Our class is Mammalia but we belong to the same phylum as birds, reptils and fish that all are vertebrates, that is have a spine that goes from the bottom of the body to the head. So they are as related to eachother as we are to a frog or a sturgeon. That they are similar means in this case not that they are closely related but that they are both adapted to live in the same ecological niche. So called convergent evolution.

I knew you would be able to give it all the proper break down, Kurben. Thank you! 🙂 Very interesting like always. ...species...genus...phylum....arthropods....vertebrates....invertebrates.....I remember parts of science class back in 7th grade. It's true that if you don't use it, you lose it. 🙂
Now what i didn't know was that crustaceans had only a head and thorax. Never thought about that before. Arachnids are pretty cool. Most of them. Love your post Swedish Indie.
