18.) Evil Dead Rise (4,5/5)
A reunion between two estranged sisters gets cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.
Not for the faint hearted. It lacks the dark humor of its predecessors, but the gallons of blood, and the intensity of its horror more than make up of it.
Its hard to find anything negative to say about this film. Just watch it and enjoy it. WHERE IS ASHLEY J WILLIAMS?
Just kidding. I am glad you enjoyed it!

31. Immaculate (FTV)
Novice nun goes to an Italian convent and learns of its dark secrets.
Immaculate is a new movie that deliberately references giallo in its style and plot structure. It even used background music I knew I’d heard before in an old Italian horror movie, I had to look it up (it’s from The Red Queen Kills Seven Times). Actress Sydney Sweeney gives a capable performance as the lead, and does some of the best unhinged screaming I’ve heard in a horror movie towards the end.
And yes, the movie is a bit unhinged, like a lot of giallo, it has that point of no return where you can either say “what the heck?” or just roll with it. It’s hard to talk about the movie without major spoilers and you’re best off not knowing much about this one. If you like creepy Catholic imagery and the notion of the new girl making her way in a strange environment, you’ll find much to enjoy in Immaculate, although maybe “enjoy” isn’t the right word.
Maybe not a “confirmed” classic, but holy heck it’s a ride.

28.) The Old Ways (FTV 0.5/5)
Deep in the Veracruz jungles, Mexican American journalist Cristina Lopez is held captive by a mysterious bruja, or witch doctor who is convinced she's possessed by a demon.
One of the most unnecessary movies ever made.
Horrible from start to end. 1.5 hrs of my life which i'll never get back.

29.) Bodies Bodies Bodies (2/5)
When a group of 20-somethings gets stuck at a remote mansion during a hurricane, a party game gone very, very wrong ends with a dead body on the ground and fake friends at every turn as they try to find the killer among them.
An okay Gen Z whodunit satirical "slasher" with an unexpected twist at the end.
I was expecting horror comedy throughout the movie, but the tone was serious and the comedy only came at the ending.
Not scary at all.

17. Body Bags (1993) John Carpenter
A very good anthology movie with 3 storys plus a story connecting the 3. John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper direct the stories and also have acting roles. John Carpenter plays a wacked out coroner who introduces the stories. There are cameos from other directors throughout this. Wes Craven and Roger Corman plus a couple others. I think my favorite segment is the one called Hair. It's a comedy/horror story starring Stacey Keach as a man worried about his thinning hair. He goes to a clinic he sees an ad for on TV and gets a new head of hair with some bad side effects. It's hilarious. Mark Hamill stars in the third segment. 7/10

27. The Last Voyage of the Demeter- 2023_ The crew of the merchant ship Demeter sets sail from Carpathia to London to deliver a cargo of 50 unmarked wooden crates. However, they soon discover they're not alone as Dracula's unholy presence turns the trip into a nightmarish fight for survival.
28. The Fly- 1986-When scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) completes his teleportation device, he decides to test its abilities on himself. Unbeknownst to him, a housefly slips in during the process, leading to a merger of man and insect. Initially, Brundle appears to have undergone a successful teleportation, but the fly's cells begin to take over his body. As he becomes increasingly fly-like, Brundle's girlfriend (Geena Davis) is horrified as the person she once loved deteriorates into a monster.
29. The Fly - original- 1958
30. The BIrds- 1963-Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren) meets Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor) in a San Francisco pet store and decides to follow him home. She brings with her the gift of two love birds and they strike up a romance. One day birds start attacking children at Mitch's sisters party. A huge assault starts on the town by attacking birds.

30.) The eight Night (FTV 2/5)
With prayer beads in one hand and an axe in the other, a monk hunts down a millennia-old spirit that's possessing humans and unleashing hell on Earth.
A very slooooow movie, sometime painful to watch. I was expecting a lot from this movie from the description. It's definitely not Hooror, more like a Mystery with ancient backgrounds, so not really scary.

32. MaXXXine (FTV)
Third film in the X/Pearl/Maxine Minx franchise has a serial killer loose in mid-80’s Los Angeles while Maxine prepares for a big movie role.
After the rural horror of X and Pearl where Maxine’s character is birthed and explored, MaXXXine goes in a different direction, more of a dark crime thriller with Michael Mann-esque (and giallo) overtones. The easygoing and stoned-out 70’s featured in X has morphed into mid-80’s conservative handwringing and satanic panic, along with Maxine’s strong ambitions to make it as a mainstream star. The film is stylish and appropriately brutal, but it rarely feels like a horror movie.
That said, as a standalone film it’s not completely bad. It’s sort of Ti West’s take on “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood”, so if you’re not a fan of motion pictures about motion pictures, you might feel a bit left out, but I found it to be mostly watchable. Mia Goth once again gives an Oscar-worthy performance, and Kevin Bacon plays an excellent slimy private eye who knows exactly what she’s all about. The ending lost me a bit, and tonally is the most different from the entire series so far. But I’m hearing there might be a 4th installment, and I’m not unhappy about that--feels like this just isn't the deserving finale that the first two films set up.
Like the 80’s it’s shiny and a bit phony, but it could be fun at times.

18. The Fog (1980) John Carpenter
Local legend tells of a ship lured on to the rocks of Antonio Bay being enveloped by a supernatural cloud as it sank; the myth says that when this mysterious fog returns, the victims will rise up from the depths seeking vengeance
I think this was Carpenter's first movie after Halloween. Kudos to him for doing something different instead of trying to copy himself and cash in. This is (what I'll call ) folklore horror. It's kind of like a throwback horror flick with John Carpenter's touch. It's pretty creepy with some good performances from Jami Lee and Tom Atkins and Jamie Lee's mom. 8/10

33. Smile 2 (FTV)
Pop star thinks she might be going insane after witnessing a violent suicide.
Smile 2 doesn’t build on any of the characters of the first film and is a standalone sequel. This one is a lot more focused inward and we are pretty much tied to the subjective experiences of the main character. If you don’t like her, you’re out of luck, her face is front and center for 99% of the movie. There’s some interesting territory mined here with regards to fame and privacy and struggling with mental health while in the public eye, and the film pulls no punches when it comes to gore.
However, I found the film a bit too grueling to be truly enjoyable, and the sheer number of cheap (and LOUD) jump scares were irritating. I don’t mind one or two jump scares in a horror movie but this movie was overly reliant on them. It also was repetitive and felt like the runtime was overlong, this could have been achieved in 102 minutes rather than 132. Also, while an unreliable narrator POV can be used effectively in a horror film, here it became sort of a crutch—the stakes didn’t feel real because after a certain point, nothing could be relied upon to be real. Artistically, they swung for the fences, but narratively it was lacking.
Repulsion meets Evil Dead.

When a lost spaceship reappears near Neptune's deteriorating orbit, a team of astronauts is sent to investigate the matter.
Same procedure as every year.
One of the best space horror movies. Great story, music, setting, length, suspense, thrill, acting.
As i said last year, it's like SK would write a Scifi/Horror Book.

I have started my yearly Hammer movie marathon and i've made i through the Dracula movies. On top of that I've watched the new Salems Lot as well. After last Saturday’s Movie Madness, I got into a few good Hammer Flicks. Here are the most significant ones of that lot :
38. “Vampire Circus” 1972
I’d never seen this one before. Enjoyed it very much. 😊
Among the cast members :
Lalla Ward The second regeneration of Time Lord, Romana….married to Tom Baker at one time. And, Darth Vader’s physique…David Prowse
39. “The Woman in Black” 2012 And
40. “The Woman in Black 2 : Angel of Death” 2014
Both of these are EXCELLENT. But I think the first film may the better of two.
41. “Countess Dracula” 1971 Ingrid Pitt

42. “Cemetery Man” (Dellamorte Dellamore) 1994 Italian Horror Comedy
Rupert Everett This was freaky, but good! I like Gnagi. 😊
43. “Stonehearst Asylum” 2014 Stellar cast. Fantastic adaption of a Poe story. (After seeing this and the fx in ‘the Frighteners’ recently, I would so like to see Guillermo DelToro’s ‘Crimson Peak’ again.
44. “Signs”
And
45. “The Sixth Sense” Had to see both of these again.
Lately I’ve been skipping the usual ‘Beatles for Breakfast’ and starting the day with horror on YouTube.
Watched this earlier,
46. “The Sect” 2006 Vampire Horror I ended up liking this one! I didn’t think I would, it is not a great film, but it was alright. The story was better than Zi thought it would be, and I didn’t turn it off. 😊
I started watching this for David Carradine. But got a nice surprise when Blondie’s Otto, Julian Richings, showed up playing a very interesting cool character. 😄

32.) 30 Days of Night (FTV 4/5)
In the far Northern Hemisphere, the small town of Barrow, Alaska, experiences a solid month of darkness every year. Though most of the residents head south for the winter, some townspeople remain behind. However, those that stay regret their decision when, one year, hungry vampires descend on Barrow
Great concept, great Vampire movie. It's color and story is very dark and really fascinating. It has great acting, a fair amount of gore, intense moments, and well done cinematography that helps give the film an eerie, desolate vibe.

34. El Vampiro (The Vampire) (FTV) 35. The Vampire’s Coffin (FTV)
1958 Mexican vampire film (and sequel) has Count Lavud pursuing a young woman.
Recently released in an excellent Blu-Ray box set from Indicator, these films are not only a significant part of the Mexican horror genre, they’re fun to watch. El Vampiro is stylish, with dramatic camera movement and an atmospheric setting achieved on a low budget. There are similarities between this and the original Universal Dracula, but it’s given a distinctly Mexican flavor. Instead of a castle in Romania we get a Mexican hacienda in a seemingly permanent night, filled with cobwebs and dark shadows.
Christopher Lee himself has stated that German Robles’ portrayal of the Count (who appears in both films) was an influence on his own. Rather than emphasizing “otherness”, these vampires are visually attractive. There is a more overt sensuality to the vampire(s) and victim relationship than the American version. When it comes to feeding, the vampire doesn’t hold back.
El Vampiro marked the first time the vampire has separated fangs; prior to this there were either no fangs (Lugosi) or centered rodent-like fangs (Nosferatu). Both films make frequent use of the transformation from vampire to bat, by use of simple cuts during motion. The Vampire’s Coffin was a highly demanded sequel, and there’s a certain kitchen sink approach: we get a sterile hospital (later used in Halloween 2), a wax museum, and an opulent theater (and requisite catwalk scene), but the movie overall is less effective than the original. Still, the visual appeal of the sets, lighting and shadows are far better than expected.
A great little double feature for fans of stylish 50’s horror.
