YOU'VE BEEN INVITED! It's that time of year again! Welcome back to the 2024 October Horror Movie Marathon!
Here's how it works:
Watch scary/horror movies in October...whatever YOU think is horror (or scary) is fine!
Talk about them here (or at least list the title).
At the end of the month, tally up how many horror movies you watched. 1-12 movies: Bangor Buddies 13-18 movies: Tet-Mates 19-30 movies: Horrorslingers 31 movies or more: Ultimate Kings of Horror!
Even if you only watch one or two scary movies, this is a great thread for horror movie enthusiasts to share their finds and talk some horror!

Ok, here we go.
1.) Host (4/5)
Six friends accidentally invite the attention of a demonic presence during an online séance and begin noticing strange occurrences in their homes.
Only 57 minutes long but genuinely gave me a few good scares.
It’s fast, effective, very little b*llsh*t, and the way it was made was just awesome .
The acting is solid, it's full of details/scares in the background to watch for, and the one big jump scare about half way through is probably the most effective one i've seen in ages.

1. “Handling The Dead” 2024 Norwegian Horror-Thriller-Mystery, that is quite sad.
Slow paced, especially at the beginning. But after you get over that initial first hump, you don’t mind the tale taking it’s time.
To say that the FX, makeup, gore and violence are low key and minimal is an understatement. But what is there is very effective, and well done.
This is not the ordinary Zombie flick. Here there is much mystery, suspense and tragedy as the story follows 3 families through loss and mysterious returns.
No frantic action scenes, the unsettling hints at what could be coming, you kinda catch out of the corner of your mind’s eye, and keep you feeling uneasy.
Things start to get more disturbing, then just go very…….sour.
This is a good watch when you’re really not in the mood for a lot of frenetic terrorizing and blood curdling screaming.

2. “Sennentuntschi” 2010 Swiss
If you ever happen to be traveling the Swiss Alps, don’t spend any nights drinking Absinthe with mountainside dwellers. 😳

1. The Last Voyage of the Demeter (FTV)
19th century ship transporting Dracula runs into predictable troubles.
This is a beautiful looking (and sounding) film from Dreamworks, of all studios. It’s a shame they didn’t hire a director with any real vision, nor did they hire a writer who cared about making a story with any surprises. This really needed something extra, a gimmick or a different take, but instead the movie never deviates from its straightforward concept.
Performances are competent, and while some reviewers have complained about the CGI visuals of the vampire, I liked his design and thought he looked appropriately nasty. I get tired of suave handsome vampires, and it’s good to see a more animalistic one that really goes for the jugular. For a Dreamworks movie, the film is nicely (and effectively) gory.
Still, if you have 18 days and a full crew can’t find a vampire on a small ship during daylight hours, you probably deserve what happens to you.
3 out of 5 stars.

2.) Late Night with the Devil (FTV 3/5)
In 1977 a live television broadcast goes horribly wrong, unleashing evil into the nation's living rooms.
It's refreshing to switch on a horror film and be presented with an old horror concept reimagined, delivering a different yet familiar experience.
The Late Nite setting was a neat original idea . Fun, fast-paced, and fantastically performed.

3. “The Rage : Carrie 2” 1999 Amy Irving, Jason London, Mena Suvari
That was fun.
Sheer fluff compared to it’s predecessor, of course.
It was like they just took some Ingredients from SK’s Carrie, and just did whatever the hell they wanted to do with them. And thought it was good. (Similar to what Bobby Flay does with SW ingredients and cuisine)
And that ending 🤨 It was like, “I love you baby, but I got to go.”
But all around it wasn’t too bad. I didn’t change the channel. 😊
Mena Suvari went on to do better things. But poor Jason London didn’t. Unfortunately. I always liked him as Randy ‘Pink’ Floyd. 🙂

2. Pet Semartary- 2019 - Dr. Louis Creed and his wife, Rachel, relocate from Boston to rural Maine with their two young children. The couple soon discover a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near their new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his neighbor Jud Crandall, setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unspeakable evil with horrific consequences.

3. The Blob- 1988- More graphically-realistic than ever THE BLOB has returned in this horrific tale about a vile, malignant life-form that crashes to earth in a cozy, rural American town called Arborville. Untroubled by conscience or intellect, the Blob does only one thing-and does it well. It eats anything and everything that moves...men, women, children. And tonight it wants to swallow Arborville whole.

3.) Disquiet (FTV 1/5)
After a near-fatal car accident, Sam wakes to discover he is trapped within an abandoned hospital by mysterious and sinister forces that have no intention of letting him leave.
Please, don't watch this. One of the worst movies ever. The acting, the costumes, the make-up, the laughable dialogues, the fighting scene.
It manages to feel long despite a runtime of just 1 hour and 25 minutes.

4.) Final Destination 2 (3,5/5)
Kimberly (A.J. Cook) has a premonition of a horrible highway accident killing multiple people -- including her and her friends.
This was a great Sequel. Gorier and lots of more fun than the first movie.
The cinematography and the details are on point, the effects are great, considering the movie was made in 2003.
Now i cant be comfortable around log trucks.

4. “All Hallow’s Eve” 2013
Art the Clown’s film debut! He’s definitely creative and full of surprises. And always so dang cheerful!
This movie was much better than I thought it would be. I ended up liking it! 😊

5. “Greta” 2018
Very good cast and story, and all around, very well done!
French discount Dame Mirren, Isabelle Huppert, is awesome as a manipulating, malevolent stalker. She then takes a very dark turn, into something very dangerous and cruel.
AT FIRST I thought it was possible that Greta was a similar type stalker to Judi Dench’s villainess, Barbara, in “Notes On A Scandal”.
Though Cloë Grace Moritz’s character ‘Frances’, is very different from Blanchett’s, Sheba.
…..Greta herself ends up being a horrendous captor, and a murderous psycho. 😳
