Maybe it’s just me, edwardjohn but it seems like you’ve been a little quieter than usual. Not just here, but elsewheres on the board too, Edinator.
You okay, kiddo? 🙂 Get the dissertation done alright?
Just checkin’ on you. Let us know how you’re doing. 🙂

Morning, gang.
I know we do 1500 words max for the Halloween story. I'm fine with that if you all are. If you want to go shorter to make things easier on the editor, that's also fine. That would actually help some of us (points at herself) exercise some self-discipline. I know I got pretty carried away during both my installments and had to do some serious editing to meet the quota.
On the other hand, if we increase the word count, it'll allow for some more creativity but we might end up with a novella instead of a short story, plus more work for the editor. And we don't want to make the editor unhappy, do we?
With that in mind, I vote for 1500 words per chapter or less. Less is more, all the great ones say it! Good points, Tanith! I vote for 1,200 words! I think that that is an excellent chapter word count. Which is over 2,000 words per writer, you know?

2 theme ideas….
1. scarecrow abandoned after the harvest comes to life, with the help of devious dark Christmas elves.
(they do things like, stealing Christmas lights and other things from people’s yards, and dress him up. Especially from the neighborhood/town curmudgeon.😊)
2. A newly hired caterer or cook must prepare a specially requested Christmas feast for a very strange, creepy and mysterious family.
The family provides the ‘unusual ingredients’ like bat meat, or venomous snake and things like ‘dried candies black widow spiders….etc….BUT the main course is huge roast of some indeterminable beast, the cook can’t figure out if it is pork or some other ‘exotic game’.😊
This family makes the Addams and Munsters look like June and Ward Cleaver. Hmmm….maybe if they have children, they ought be sinister smartass teenagers. 🤔 I love the scarecrow idea! A lot of comedy could happen with that, perhaps! haha!

6 days each for writing 2 back to back chapters?
How many words max are we going to have?
Anyone?
Everyone have a good day.
🙂 Yep, just thinking that would cover a 30 day period, and assuming a few of the writers will be early, but there's still breathing room in the 6 days. Yes, good idea, cap. Perhaps we could do three days for a chapter then start it over again?

Perhaps we could do three days for a chapter then start it over again? I figured that we can either do that, and submit the chapters separately to not over burden the editor. Alternatively, if you get both in the same timeframe, submit them both and we made extra days available for other writers.

Good morning, all. Here, as of the last morning of September, is our idea list to date.
1. A small town's Christmas is being overshadowed by inexplicable and macabre vandalism of its decorations.
2. A scarecrow, abandoned after the harvest, is given "new life" by some sinister holiday elves.
3. A newly hired cook/caterer is tasked with preparing a ghastly holiday feast, with help from the "family" that retains his/her services.
I really like your two suggestions, wolf. I can even see combining ideas one and two...but let's see what our friends have to offer first!
EDIT: 1200 words is absolutely all right with me!

Just checking in real quick, I’ve got a lot going on this morning.
Everything is looking really good in here!
Cap docpain2 and edwardjohn , I suggest one thing. When writing 2 chapters back to back.
Have the writer submit the chapters SEPARATELY.
There could be a continuity issue arise, and better for something like that to be taken care of before the writer continues on with their next chapter.
I think that will make it easier and more efficient for the editor and the writer alike, in the long run.
Know what I mean? 🙂
I’m just trying to help keep things clear and everyone on the same page. 🙂

Morning, gang.
I know we do 1500 words max for the Halloween story.
Actually that was how it was done for a story two.
Chapter lengths can vary and are flexible.
For the 2023 Halloween Story, I just cut to the chase and made it 1500 words for all chapters, to make things easier.
The first and last chapters are normally longer than the mid chapters.
The Halloween Story procedures are the SKMB’s particular ‘formula’, that we stick to.
Our Playground Christmas Story is all ours here on this board. And we can do some things differently. 🙂
I plan on making a post or two about these things, and why we do what we do, later down the line. 🙂
To have for future reference.
In the archive. In the dark. In the night.
😂
(I don’t what’s going to happen a year from now. It IS good having these discussion threads in the archive, so that future writers and editors/coordinators can go back and look at what has been, and get some help from any info there. 🙂)

Is everyone cool with writing two chapters? Would you prefer them to be contiguous? I vote for 9 or 10 chapters, writers alternating Cap. 🙂
JB darkharbinger , when I draw for writer’s order,
I have the writers’ names written on pieces of paper all the same size and folded up tight, and I have a large plastic M&M jar to put them in.
I say a prayer, and a couple of magic words, shake the jar up, and pull out the names one by one.
That’s all there’s to it. 😄😉JB is back 😄 😎🎶❗️ Above is the post on the ‘writers order’ I told you about JB. 😊

Just like the 2023 Halloween Story….
If no one comes forward with any ‘chapter preferences’ then everyone’s names go into one single drawing.
