Is everyone cool with writing two chapters?
Would you prefer them to be contiguous?

Is everyone cool with writing two chapters? Would you prefer them to be contiguous? I vote for 9 or 10 chapters, writers alternating Cap. 🙂
JB darkharbinger , when I draw for writer’s order,
I have the writers’ names written on pieces of paper all the same size and folded up tight, and I have a large plastic M&M jar to put them in.
I say a prayer, and a couple of magic words, shake the jar up, and pull out the names one by one.
That’s all there’s to it. 😄😉

Sweet. All right, here we go.
The setting is a small town rather than a big city. The sort of place where everybody knows everybody.
To begin with, there's not really murder or any major mayhem going on...yet. But something definitely is. Inexplicably strange things are happening to the festive outdoor displays...one family's Santa-and-reindeer decoration has acquired a ninth reindeer that looks nothing like Rudolph or anything else found in nature. The cutesy candy canes that decorate the lampposts downtown have been replaced by several wickedly sharp implements...saws, axes, machetes. And when the holiday music is turned on, all that comes out of the speakers is something that sounds like the screams of the damned. It ain't Burl Ives, and it ain't normal. People are scared and suspicious...and the "pranks", if they are pranks, are slowly getting more elaborate. Y'all have read Needful Things, so you get the general idea.
And that's it. For a simple one-word description I'll just say "Shadow over a small-town Christmas".

I like all of what you’ve got in that post, Tanith . Great stuff! 😊
What I’m getting from it, in a nutshell, are ‘haunted/phantom X-Mas decorations’.
The ‘Shadow over a town at Christmas’ is very good! I like it! 😊
In 2021 our X-Mas Story was more or less about a ‘cursed town at Christmas’. But it has ‘ghosts’ and other elements mixed in too.
I’ll keep up a list of our theme ideas for everyone, unless you would like to, Tanith.
I think it’s it’s really nice to have fresh eyes and talents at work on the different coordinating tasks!
When it comes time to make up our ‘Christmas Story cover post’, I’m going to make sure everyone gets the credit they deserve. 😊❤️

I can keep up the list of themes, wolf. How do you normally do it? Just on a Word doc or some such, or do you use a spreadsheet that multiple people can access?
Oh, and I forgot to mention earlier, but two continuous chapters should be doable for me. I just need enough time...we've got somebody resigning at work, so my schedule next month or two might be a bit wibbly-wobbly. Not enough to really be a problem, just a minor annoyance.

I just watch the suggestions as people bring them, and make the lists in posts here in this thread. 😊
If we get many, I usually just go back through the pages and make sure I don’t miss any. 😊
Probably best to tag or quote Cap docpain2 , about your answers to his questions. 😊

….oh! And Tanith , thanks for handling the theme list!
Like I said, I think it’s pretty cool having ‘fresh eyes and talents’ at these different tasks. 😊
It might just make things even more fun. And we’re breaking new ground. 😄
If this helps :
when I tally people’s votes, I automatically give them 1 vote for their own theme suggestion, and we are allowed to vote for more than one.
(I do the same thing with the story title list)
Cap and sometimes others, like to list their choices in an order, ‘best to last’. Youve probably noticed that already. 🙂
The most votes wins of course.
But you manage the task whatever way you see fit.
You may come up with a far better way to do it. 😊
I’ve got two ideas for theme I’m brewing up right now. I’ll bring them soon.
Getting kind of tired now.
Everyone have a great night. 🙂

Maybe can kick off right after Halloween and give it six days per writer.
That could put us at the first week of December to be completed.
Just a thought.

Just a thought. 6 days each for writing 2 back to back chapters?
How many words max are we going to have?
Anyone?
Everyone have a good day.

🙂 Yep, just thinking that would cover a 30 day period, and assuming a few of the writers will be early, but there's still breathing room in the 6 days.

Morning, gang.
I know we do 1500 words max for the Halloween story. I'm fine with that if you all are. If you want to go shorter to make things easier on the editor, that's also fine. That would actually help some of us (points at herself) exercise some self-discipline. I know I got pretty carried away during both my installments and had to do some serious editing to meet the quota.
On the other hand, if we increase the word count, it'll allow for some more creativity but we might end up with a novella instead of a short story, plus more work for the editor. And we don't want to make the editor unhappy, do we?
With that in mind, I vote for 1500 words per chapter or less. Less is more, all the great ones say it!

I talked to JB yesterday, he said he would get in here soon.
YOU might want to tag Edders, to see if he’s going to write 1 or 2 chapters. (He don’t want to talk to me for some reason.) 😂😉
I vote for 1500 words, and I’m good with back to back, or alternating writers. 😊

2 theme ideas….
1. scarecrow abandoned after the harvest comes to life, with the help of devious dark Christmas elves.
(they do things like, stealing Christmas lights and other things from people’s yards, and dress him up. Especially from the neighborhood/town curmudgeon.😊)
2. A newly hired caterer or cook must prepare a specially requested Christmas feast for a very strange, creepy and mysterious family.
The family provides the ‘unusual ingredients’ like bat meat, or venomous snake and things like ‘dried candies black widow spiders….etc….BUT the main course is huge roast of some indeterminable beast, the cook can’t figure out if it is pork or some other ‘exotic game’.😊
This family makes the Addams and Munsters look like June and Ward Cleaver. Hmmm….maybe if they have children, they ought be sinister smartass teenagers. 🤔
