Unlike the 1990 take on IT, I really enjoyed The Stand mini series, but a lot changed just those 4 years, the FCC lessened restrictions. I mean there's a scene where Randall just outright rapes Nadine, they show him on top of her then cut to her whining in pain, kind of graphic for 1994 network television. But what a case, I mean a few of them were on their way out like Ringwald but they got to put in one last fun performance before going over to Hallmark or wherever many 80's actors who aren't loved much anymore end up.
Anywho, I re-watched it all yesterday, which isn't easy 6 hours with only the random smoke break, the digital transfer is taken from the 16:9 DVD transfer, so there's some tearing at times in the image but it still was a blast to watch.
So many post apoc stories have been based on the Stand, I mean I counted at least 6 when I watched it yesterday, big time post apoc stories to, not just b flicks. But big shock, King's work being a big influence on others.
The question is, did they have to remake it? ANd why did they bother to remake it for television again? I mean they can easily get a 4 part big budget film franchise from the book with tons of fancy effects, a better cast, etc, and so on. But they went the TV route again, which is weird.
I'm also thinking the master of the 1he 1994 version is a bit jacked up, they still haven't done a proper high def transfer yet, which is odd. I've seen the blu ray, half of it is still at standard def, if not more than half, which makes me think he master got screwed up. If the master is messed up, they can try to use CGI to restore some of what was messed up but fans probably would get peeved.
Anywho, I just found out they put out a new cover for the book, so I think I'll get it again, never cared for the dungeons and dragons cover.
So the question is, for those who've seen the remake, is it worth it? Or is it a bit of a let down?
