I can't think of a creative subject for this new thread so I'll just go with the one I went with...
The Women Of Gaming... its a dedication to all lead or co-lead female characters in video games. There was a time, not too long ago, where games, it was always male characters saving the princesses or girlfriends, like Double Dragon. But Metroid shocked fans when they beat the game and found out Samus wasn't a dude, Samus was a green haired woman. But Metroid wasn't really story driven, was just a shoot em up game for the most part. The big change started with Lara Croft and just kept going and going.
So who are your favorite female lead/co-lead characters, I may have more than I do guys.
Lara Croft is my all time fave, she started off a bit overly t&a but it was still a step forward, and years later the game would be rebooted and Lara would become even more realistic.
Bloodrayne is sexy but an equal in every way, she was basically like Blade, half human and half vampire but she couldn't stay in the sun forever like Blade, she could take it for awhile but she'd eventually start to feel the pain. Her first game was about taking out mazis, but the second, it was about taking out evil vampires, and a huge improvement. Both are on GOG now and they remastered them for 4K, one catch, one needs Windows 10, which I still refuse to use... oh well.
Claire Redfield is in third place. Jill Valentine may have been the first woman in the RE franchise but Claire was just cooler, hipper, and she kicked serious butt in RE 2 and CV. One also has to give her extra points because the Japanese made her. Japan was really struggling with gender equality while the US was making progress faster, so Claire was just as risky for Capcom as Lara was for Core.
Ada Wong is next and also from the RE franchise, she's sneaky and a backstabber but she's also very cool and goes above and beyond proving she's equal to Leon in every way.
My own character in Saints Row 4. One of the great things about Saints Row 2-4 is the ability to create a character in so many different ways, and my female character is snarky, wicked, and kicks serious butt.
That's just the start, there's more, like a certain woman from Metal Gear Solid....
I remember when I first heard of the Legend Of Zelda, the commercials just were of a guy running around his house shouting her name, didn't mention what the game was actually about at all. So I thought Nintendo was making a game about a female character who goes on an adventure, and was a little let down when it was just the guy saving the girl again thing, but it is still a great game. Link wasn't exactly that manly anyways..
Who are your faves? There are quite a few like Mona in Max Payne 2 for example.

Jacqui Briggs From MK...She The First Black Woman In There Too An One Of My Favs To Play As. There Probably Ones In Other Games Too But ICR. Also Basically Every Other Female Too In The Series
Also Those Katana Wielding Twins From Dead Rising 2 I Forget There Names BC I Havent Play It Ina While. Isabella Keyes From Dead Rising 1 As Well She Was Bad At First But Turns Good.
Regina From Dino Crisis 1 an 2, Shaundi From Saints Row 2, Ada Wong From Resident Evil Series.

Deviancy Do They Have To Be Humans Too Though? I see no reason why they can't be aliens or elves or what have you. I just touched on the characters one could play as, there are then the co-star females that are companions. Shaundi is a good one because she started off rather weak but she learned from her mistakes in the third and fourth and became an equal and very empowered, but she was upset with who she used to be, until she met the virtual young Shandi in the fourth game who told her if it wasn't for her stupid decisions in the second, she never would have been the strong woman she had become. Kind of a deep moment in the game. Kinzie, introduced in the third, is up there, she's very intelligent and at first while she just seems like a tech nerd who is a soft target, the enemies learn fast she's as tough as them. Them there's Meryl Silverburgh from Metal Gear: Solid. She was a great companion to Snake in the game, but never did get the love she deserved, sadly. Back to playable, there's Clementine from Telltale' Walking Dead games, she's the only character who is in all of the games. She's just a child in the first and Lee is the playable character, but she learns to adapt better than many of the adults to the "new world", and I swore she'd be killed off in the second but she just gets more resilient and as the series moves forward, so does her age, and she's a teen in the third but I've never played it but it was the final part of the story, so not sure what her fate was. Michonne may as well be mentioned, Telltale made a Walking Dead game that was just about Michonne, and talk about tough as nails. Those who've never read the comic won't know this, but when the Governor had her captive, he raped her numerous times, and before she escaped she cut off his private parts and his arm, which is why he was really angry in the comic. And well the game plays into that so those who've just watched the show, and don't know he did that, may be confused as to why she keeps having nightmares of him. The show hinted that it may have happened in the show as well but AMC wasn't going to do what the comic did, it was too graphic. Anywho, I'd go on but the debut of Dexter's new season is about to start.... |

The updated premise for the Saints’ origin: They’re a startup business, they just happen to be criminals. The idea comes from Eli, a bowtie-wearing MBA and one of the four founding friends that start the Saints. “He just didn’t realize the business he was going to build was a criminal empire,” Bernstein said. “So that means the next step is to make connections with people that can shoot guns.”They said it will have some of the satire from the third, but also be serious at times as well, and unlike the previous series, they don't mean to start a gang, it happens accidentally. The graphics look intense though, so I have a hunch my pc won't be able to play it... |

I haven't played Mortal Kombat since the one with Freddy, so I'm not familiar with the character you like, but I did like the girls in Dead Rising 2, they amused me. As for Saints Row, I like new spin they're going with, its more hip to how things are today with organized crime. Plus, they kind of went too far in 4 by blowing up earth, it just left them with one option, go back in time, and Retro City Rampage already did that so it would look like they were copying that game. The PC specs still aren't official yet but it looks like Windows 10 is mandatory, so I won't be playing it anytime soon. I just really, really don't want to use Windows 10. However, sometimes a modder makes something that makes windows 10 games work on 7, so maybe that'll happen. |

An D'Vorah Isa Insect Type Of Species She A Female But Kinda Like a Hive Queen With Many Bug Abilities An Powers My only issue with MK is character wise, there's quite a few, but many look very much alile. Rain, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Reptile, and I think there's one other, all in similar ninja outfits, different moves but still a bit over kill. Then they added Mileena and in the last one I played, there were like three other characters that had basically the same outfit but a different color. So I'm hoping D'Vorah actually has a unique look. However, have to hand it to Capcom, bit more variety with Street Fighter, took awhile though. First there was just Chun Li, then they added Cammy, totally different, then as time went on they added more unique females, and one that's actually really unique, Poison, and that brings me to my next pick. Poison is in Street Fighter IV I believe, she dresses like girls who were into 80's metal in well, the 80's, a halter top, skimpy shorts, and stiletto heels. However, what makes her interesting is her gender. In Japan she's a trans, in the US she was born a woman. Either way by default she's a woman since this is 2021, a persons gender isn't defined by what genitalia they have, but it makes her stand out among other female video game characters. The upcoming Saints Row has a new woman, kind of a mix of Kinzie and Shaundi, total bad a*s. They're promising a bigger map this time around and with more interactive stuff, so that'll be nice. |

It is, it shows that video games are adapting with the times, I have a hunch there will be a member of the new Saints that will be gay or trans, just a hunch but there's one character in the trailer who shows some of the traits. But Saints Row trailers always make things look like there's only one way to play when there are multiple ways to play, especially in the reboot. They're allowing the player to actually side with some of the gangs if they chose to this time around I think, or so I've heard. As for D'Vorah, I looked her up and you're right, totally unique and cool looking. As for fighting games, I'm torn between SF and MK, they both offer a different thing. I like the fast paced fighting and all the cool combos in Street Fighter, while Mortal Kombat the pace is a bit slower and it doesn't have as good of a combo system. However, I prefer the more life like look the characters in MK have than the cartoon style of Street Fighter, and I like the fatality option, where in SF they just get knocked out. Someone years ago made a fighting game called Bikini Fighters, totally corny game... As for your headaches that Wolf mentioned, don't games make them worse? There's a lot of games I can't play because they give me those hardcore headaches that make my eyes feel like they're going to pop out. By pure coincidence, one of the reasons I prefer Saints Row IV over the others, most of the game takes place at night, which is easier on my eyes and less likely to give me headaches. Think its eye strain that causes mine though... |

Not To Change The Subject Though but Do You Know the Characters Names In The New Saints Row Game? Like The One You Say Is Like Shaundi An Kinzie? So far there's Neenah a former mechanic, Kevin who is a DJ, and Eli a day trader/business start up guy and of course the "boss", which is up to the player on who they want them to be. New to the game, there will be "businesses" that the player can take over and set up to run illegal businesses to make money. For PC gamers, Saints Row will not be on Steam, they signed an exclusive deal with Epic Games online store. Action wise, they're going for a John Wick theme this time around, so expect lots of gun play and some hand to hand fighting. Driving wise, they're going for Baby Driver and the driving will be more realistic and the cars will be able to be used as weapons, which should be interesting. Satire wise, they're going to of course poke fun at John Wick and other modern day action films but it won't be as retro as 2-4. There's too many gamers who weren't even alive in the 80's, so poking fun at 80's movies leaves a lot of gamers not even realizing what they're making fun of. They're going to be trying some other new things since people are losing interest in the GTA style of game play, so we'll see what happens in a few months. |
