I finally got around to watching the Blair Witch, think it should be called Blair Witch Project 3, but they at least dropped "Project" so it wouldn't be confused as the first or seen as a reboot, which it isn't. Some of the reviewers made it seem like it was but it picks up years later with Heather's brother finding new evidence and he and his pals going to the town to see if they can actually find out what happened to her and her two pals. He brings quite a few, and they then hire someone who knows the area and the legend to help them, which is kind of a nod to the Book Of Shadows, not that it deserved a nod since it was a horrible rush job. The Blair Witch is everything Book Of Shadows could have been had they taken some time but well, can't go back. Blair Witch, or Blair Witch 3 as I call it, is very close to being as good as the original, it lacks all the PR ads the first had which made it seem more like a documentary than a film, but can't have it all. Anywho, this time around there's several instead of just three but it doesn't make one bit of a difference, they start vanishing fast and I had to watch it twice because the first time, I went out for a smoke, that takes me like 4 minutes, and when I came back, half of them were already gone. I mean they vanish fast in the sequel except for the brother and his girfriend. But when they're searching the house they come across one of the missing from the new film, and he's all rabid and possessed like, and then he just vanishes. Could she be possessing some of them and having them do some of the killings? IS she killing any of them or are they all her "pets" of sorts? There are no bodies, no evidence of murder, so who knows. We don't even know if she's a ghost of a witch or an immortal witch who is still very much a physical being with powers.
I said sorta with the spoilers because its the Blair Witch, and anyone who has seen the first should be able to know how the third ends. The second can throw them off a bit but anyone who thinks they'd pick up where the second left off, not gonna happen, it got an 11% on RT, which is a big F-.
As for the second, I just don't get why they dropped the ball like they did, should have been easy to follow up on but nope. Only thing I can think of, the writers of the first wanted nothing to do with the second. I haven't checked IMDB to see if the writing team changed, don't think I need to, seems obvious that it did. Again, its not a horrible film, it just is such a huge departure its confusing.

I Like these Movies I Remember the First One Like it was Yesterday an they Scare Me but Really Cool Films though. Poltergeist will always be my favorite ghost film but if the Blair Witch is a ghost, its my second favorite. I don't think we'll ever be told what she is, we just know she's very ancient, very pissed, and very powerful since she takes out numerous young people, all who are in pretty good shape.

Yea Maybe It Was Around Before People an There is No Name For Her an Maybe That is For The Best To Keep Her a Mystery. Well men killed her because in that era any woman who didn't please men were accused of being witches and killed, even if it was just a color they were wearing that wasn't liked. So they could go so many different ways, she could have been an innocent woman and came back for revenge, she could be a ghost or a demon, she could actually have been a witch and rose from her grave. It is a known fact she can transform or merge with trees, so she's obviously supernatural but that's all we'll probably ever know.

Yea Did It Say She Was Killed By Men? They said she was killed for being a witch, and in her era women weren't allowed to play, they could have been in the crowd I think though. Which brings us to another spin on her story, why kill the women in the films? If she was killed for being a witch, she'd be just as mad at women since women just watched as other women were killed by men. Really bad time for this world... but well... Sleepy Hollow kind of touches on it when it comes to Depp's mother in the film.

Or Maybe Since She AA Witch Her Powers Make Her Even Stronger an Worse After Death Too. If she was a witch and was killed, it is very likely she'd come back even stronger because she'd no longer be mortal. Ok, to be fair, there are sketches and a figure was made of what she most likely looks like, but this figure is based off of an idea of what she looks like, so there could be some differences when or if they finally do fully show her.

The "Blair Witch Project" was the first flick to kick off the 'live action' style of filming. For me, it was different and pretty well done, can't say that about many other movies that came after it. Kind of feel the same way about it as I tend to over all the 'unplugged' crap in music.
When I first saw the first 'Blair Witch', I was really disappointed and didn't really care for it all. The reason why, is because I had seen a sort of special/documentary type show on the Scy Fy Channel, back when it was still "Sci Fi Channel" and really much better than it is now. Man, the promos for the channel during the com'mercial breaks were really awesome back then. Shame they stopped doing those, but I'm sure it was very expensive for them, considering the quality.
That Sci Fi Channel Special/making of/documentary thing, had all of the very best moments of the movie in it. And I actually consider it to have been even BETTER than the movie itself! It really built the film and all the suspense up, and made you want to see the movie. I'm sure that anyone who had not seen that tv show, before the movie, would not be disappointed with the actual flick as I was.
I have searched youtube, and unfortunately could not find that show there, but I did find one guy who ...lol....did a vid on the commercials and promos that aired during that premiere.
Dizzy (since you remember this movie so well) , you and Deviancy , can probably refresh my memory on this.😊 The one thing I found really intriguing in that movie (and docu/special) was the mention of a back pack or something with a note book in it, that one of the victims had...it was found undisturbed in the weirdest of places....down in the wall of a well or something like that. ("?" that's the part y'all can help jog my memory for me, if you don't mind🙂)
It was found somewhere very old and unearthed. A spot that would be impossible to have those 'modern' things buried in it, with absolutely no sign of disturbance.
Dizzy, that favorite short story of mine ("Continued On Next Rock" by R.A. Lafferty) that I mentioned in there "Random Thoughts" thread earlier today, had almost the exact same sort of thing happen in it. That is the strange occurrence I was referring to, lil Sis. 😊
Here's the vid of the commercials and some Sci Fi Channel Promos that aired during that special/making of/docu show 🙂 ....

A spot that would be impossible to have those 'modern' things buried in it, with absolutely no sign of disturbance. I recall it turning out to be bait sorta, I just watched it four days ago and it is mentioned so fast I already forgot its background again. The third is the same but with the video instead of the note, he mentions evidence no one saw in the tape that he saw but before he ever elaborates on it much, they're in the woods again and vanishing again, and the witch once again makes all the bodies, clothes, etc, vanish but leaves behind the camera. One can say the note was planted by the witch to lead more into her trap, and the same goes with the video. Dizzy don't give me credit for that figure, that was made by Todd McFarlane, the same guy who created Spawn and various other horror characters. He did a 90's horror line of figures including Freddy, Jason, etc, and wanted to do the Blair Witch, so he had a talk with the creators. Not sure if they told him what they pictured or showed him drawings. She also apparently can blend into the trees or become one, which is how she stays hidden and how she is able to keep track of her prey. I'd say she can be killed however, she hides from the search parties, if she was immortal, she would just kill them as well but she has a weakness and knows if enough people hunt her down, they can figure out how to kill her. Old witch lore, they can be killed with in two ways, by running water, or removing their heart. Been awhile since I've read the old lore however... so could be decapitation.

That is a really awesome McFarlane model. Great background in that too.
'Spawn' was way cool. And I like that flick. Wouldn't mind seeing it again.
When it comes to the rest of the 'Blair Witch' movies, I'm sorry to say, I honestly had no desire to see them and never did. Not trying to be a downer here, just honest.
