I posted this in Stephen King Central on Facebook. I hope we can drum up some interest here as well! Calling all amateur writers: in the spirit of the season, I’d like to bring back the “Scary Halloween Story” that we used to participate in on the SKMB. It started as a tradition for Stephen King’s birthday, and the tradition kept on for many years. I was lucky enough to be a part of it and actually help manage the project for a few years. This is open to anyone who wants to contribute. We will allow a few days for sign ups. Once sign ups close, we will make a private group. Once the story is done, it will be published publicly here.
It’s like a shared story: one person starts, they submit the first chapter to (who ever is in charge of managing this project), it gets passed to the second author, then it gets published on the private thread, and the next person in line gets three days to submit the next chapter. The story should remain cohesive, but each author must write their own contribution. It unravels in kind of a synergistic manner. Here are the rules:
1. No using pot devices, characters, quotes or specific ideas from any Stephen King’s work. I know that sounds hard, but we can write about vampires without using events and characters from Salem’s Lot.
2. Each chapter has a 700 word limit. The editor(s) will allow some leeway on this, but you may have to cut or ad parts
3. You don’t need to be a great writer or a native English speaker to participate, but try to submit your best work to the editors.
4. Be prompt when it’s your turn to submit. If you don’t have something submitted within the three day time frame you’re assigned, we’ll have to move on to the next author.
Okay! Who is interested? Sign ups can go in this thread and I’m going to cap it at ten authors. That way we should have time to have the whole thing ready to roll out by Halloween! Sign up below if you’re interested in writing a chapter. If you want to help manage or edit, say that in the comments as well. I'm hoping to consolidate this to either here or Facebook, so if you have a FB account, plz join that group and let me know you are there!
***This is for fun only! This will not be a paid publication.
