Pegasus has a special home here in Dallas. 😊
I'll only post some classic representations of him here though (other than this one post).

but this is what I know....
Gorgons in myth and art have always been shown as hideous monsters.
The story of Medusa is very old one.
Details vary in different versions of it
from place to place and time to time.
But this is all the basic elements....
Originally there were 4 (give or take) Gorgon sisters,
all very graceful and beautiful.
Medusa was the youngest and most beautiful.
The god Poseidon fell in love with Medusa.
The goddess Athene caught the two of them trysting
in one of her temples.
To punish them,
she turned Medusa into the snake haired monster,
while they slept.
Posiedon woke to find that in his arms
instead of his beautiful girl.
Medusa's sisters railed against Athene for what she had done.
That angered Athene also,
and she turned them into frightful things
with brass claws and fangs too.
Though they were not as deadly as their youngest sister.
She was more fearsome and hideous.
And merely looking at her would turn a person to stone.
Athene gave Pereus her shield to help him slay the monster.
He could look at Medusa's reflection in the shield's surface
without being turned into a statue.
He used it to help him behead her.

But then again, she was not the only Gorgon.
Like I said her sisters were not the same kind of monsters that SHE was.

The films they've done in these latter years
have been way off from the original stories they are based on.
I don't care for them too much. They're pretty ridiculous.
I watch them when I'm bored and there is nothing else on I feel like watching.
I'll tell what is a great movie (and all the books by C.S. Lewis are tremendous) is the "The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe". I really love the battle scene with all the mythological creatures of Narnia in it. |
