Based on their successful Netflix show, Stranger Things, and their affinity for Stephen King and '80s pop culture, would you like them to adapt one of King's books into a movie or TV show? I would like them to do The Tommyknockers (despite it being adapted by someone else). What do you think?

I think they are creative enough to do something really brilliant and "out there" with the short story N. - thoughts??

That is a great idea. Stranger Things has a bunch of humor to balance out the horror, which is why I suggested The Tommyknockers; it has a fair amount of the '80s vibe, too. "N." would be in the same ballpark as "the upside-down" in Hawkins. I'd be curious to see how they developed it because it is one of King's more serious and darker stories. {N.} Suicide...and Lovecraftian madness.

Yes, but I'm not sure they could make it scary enough. There's a trade off.

The Duffers initially approached Warner Bros several years ago to do IT, but were turned down. They eventually turned their love of all things SK into Stranger Things.
I'm sure they would love to do a legitimate SK adaptation, but considering they rolled so many elements of his novels into their show, would they be game? Number 11's story alone is basically Firestarter, which is the kind of project I see them doing (not outright horror). I think they would be great for adapting Duma Key into a limited series. Tommyknockers is a good pick, but James Wan is already producing a new version.

Are this the guys who made that show about the stuff that’s even weirder than not so regular stuff?

I think they'd do a good job with Black House.

I think you have a point with the brothers "rolling so many elements of [King's] novels into their show" that they'd probably choose to pass on a legitimate adaptation. The nostalgia bug bit me with Stranger Things, and I'm definitely a fan of the show, but I'm beginning to see writing isn't their forte. They have survived mainly by celebrating and making hay out of scraps from their favorite 80s pop culture. I don't think they have anything new or interesting to say. (The third season was especially guilty of this; we basically revisited the same old ground. It was funny, though, and action-packed.) All this to say I dig the show for what it is, but I'm not particularly keen on them adapting a King book. Not even The Tommyknockers, as I previously said.

Doc, you echo my sentiments. I finished S3 of ST last weekend and was surprised by how much I didn't enjoy it. Three seasons in, and they're still dancing around the mystery. There was nothing new here except the kids are teenagers now. I'm over the novelty of the 80s setting. They need to step up their game for S4 before it goes the way of Lost, a show that I got fed up of halfway through the first season.

Watching LOST all those years was like being in the ring with a kick boxer who kicks the crap out of your head for an hour. I didn't know which end was up or how the chronology worked or anything. It had its moments, and I was one of the fans who liked the finale a lot. Over all, I think it is a show better enjoyed if viewers don't think too hard on it. That was hard for me because I analyze everything to death.
Hopefully Stranger Things 4 will bring something new to the table. The way it ended left some exciting options open; we will see if they try something new. What do you think about an homage to Nightmare on Elm Street (Hawkins kids are dreaming about x,y,z) or Back to the Future (having fun with time travel: why not, it's a silly show at heart)?
