A very hopeful story from King to end quite a bleak collection of stories. Not really a whole lot to say about it If I'm being honest, happy for Darlene and her family. This reminded me a lot of A Christmas Carol for some weird reason, probably because of Darlene's sick son who won't have to worry about money again. Anyway, a great story to end Everything Eventual. Hopefully SK will have another one out soon.

Quick read, enjoyable, happy vibes. I wonder why Steve chose to spell LUCKEY with the "e" ( from note in envelope) as opposed to Lucky. Hidden meaning, or British version?

I think it's spelled both ways in the text of the story so i think it's just a misspelling by the man that wrote the note and gave Darlene the quarter. I don't know why Steve did that. I'm sure he had a reason.
There's not a lot to the story except that it's one of Steve's more pleasant ones. I agree with Ed that it was a nice story to end the collection with.

Is EE his most recent short story collection?

Is EE his most recent short story collection? No, there are two after this one, Just After Sunset and Bazaar of Bad Dreams. I like Bazaar the best

I guess I am the only one who did not get a happy feeling from this story. I expected something bad to happen at any moment and that feeling of dread was there throughout. I wanted her to get rid of the quarter pronto, before something happened to her kids or to herself.

I could sympathize with the main character. I do have one question. She described one of the casino chips as looking like a squished Canada mint. I've never heard of a Canada mint before
The story is from the 90's so I wonder if you can still find them?

Canada Mints were made by the New England Candy Company in Massachusetts for decades. The company went out of business and they are no longer made.
