We have a number of Black Bears here where I live in the foothills of the Blue Mountain in the Poconos. I had one climb my fence and destroy my bird feeders early in spring, and left me a big pile of crap as his calling card. The other year I was driving up the mountain road and a behemoth decided to cross the road in front of me, leisurely lumbering across the road, making me stop and wait for him. Back in the 90’s I came face to face with one of the largest Black Bears ever recorded in Pennsylvania. It was almost 850 pounds (it was taken by a local hunter a few days later). I was at a property I owned and this thing was coming out of some tall weeds. At first I thought a local farmer’s cow had escaped and I was walking over to it. That is until the thing stood up on it’s hind legs when I was about 15 yards from him. I know they say never run away from a bear but I booked like mad, got in the car, locked the doors and started it up to make a quick getaway just in case it thought I would make a tasty snack.

Hummingbirds are so cool to watch at my feeder I have out back hanging off a deck. Only see them in spring and fall on their migration routes, though. Yeah, love big cats. Apparently, in certain US states you can actually own big cats, I don't know if I'd want to own a baby puma ... Well, maybe as a puppy.
