I enjoyed the story. In a weird way, I wanted to cheer when the ghost/spirit in the house was referred to as IT. WUITIIQGUyMrvFxIgkNw

Excellent story. I knew of this Blackwood character through the appreciation of HP Lovecraft, but its great to know that his praise was not unfounded! Will definitely check out more of his work. There is something brilliant about unbelievers of the supernatural being put into situations of the like.

Enjoyed the story. Felt it was an excellent study of psychological fear. The fear factor superseded the paranormal. Also the interdependence between Jim and his aunt. The anxiety level was building throughout the story.

I also loved the story about how it was the house came to be haunted. And how the events of that seem to be repeating.

What a great opening line
Certain houses, like certain persons, manage somehow to proclaim at once their character for evil. Blackwood, Algernon. The Empty House and Other Ghost Stories (p. 1). Kindle Edition.

Blackwood does a great job creating a dark atmosphere and although the story is fairly simple, his vivid descriptions stick with you. It's an excellent story and my one minor complaint is that the story ends suddenly.
Everywhere there was a sense of recent occupation, an impression of sadness and gloom. Blackwood, Algernon. The Empty House and Other Ghost Stories (p. 6). Kindle Edition.

Thought it was a really good story. The atmosphere of the house, the sights, sounds and feelings very well captured in writing to create a creepy tense feeling that slowly increased. Hadn't read anything by Blackwood before but will probably look him up again.

I enjoyed this story too. The build up of tension was great. I liked when they were going downstairs and caught a glimpse of something. That was the best part! I could just see them hanging onto each other.
