Had actually totally forgotten this story. And when i read it i understood why. I don't think it is good at all. Wellwritten as always but rather formulaic. The hero fights his way out of a dungeon. And all i could think about was how incompetent his enemies was. Not restrained at all, just one single handgun in the hands of a stupid thug.

Not a favorite but it kept me interested throughout. As Kurben pointed out, it was a bit ordinary at the end. The atmosphere and foreboding tone that Stephen created is very good and that kept things interesting.

Well, I don't love this one, I'll put it that way. I couldn't focus and kept having to re-read paragraphs, which is never a good sign.
Oh well, they can't all be awesome.

Going to agree with the above posters. Not the best read. Almost knew the ending.

The burning cigarette stuck in the eye was kind of gross and awesome at the same time.

Weird ... I actually really like this story, one of my favourites from EE. Fletcher is the man. Action is pretty cool.

Lets hold off on this until I can get Frank to say if we are ok with this link
@osnafrank
The story was published in 1970 so it is possible that it's in the public domain but unlikely.
Frank, look at the link above and let us know if you're ok with it. Thanks.

We need to pick a different story. I'm pretty sure the Mattheson story is not in the public domain.
