Today we will be discussing The Death Of Jack Hamilton by Stephen King from the book Everything's Eventual
(I must finish reading it. The Miami Heat interfered with my reading last night. )

I liked this one! It is far from being a typical horrorstory really. It is just a story of the death (the documented death!) of a man. I had never heard of Jack Hamilton or Homer before this story but according to Kings notes they were real living persons, members of Dillingers gang. It is a real good story, very well told. It is also a real human story.

I enjoyed it, too.😎 I like stories about the old west--the Dillinger Gang, Wyatt Earp & Doc Holliday, all that stuff. And it's nice to take a break from the supernatural now & then.

I liked it too, it was a realistic gangster tale. It's one of those stories told from a bad guy's perspective where the bad guy's don't quite see themselves as bad as everyone else does. I think the slow death of Jack Hamilton is the horror aspect of this story. The cigarette smoke coming out of his back was a nice touch.

That article was very interesting. The prison break sounded wild.

They’re probably gentler and more polite than American gangsters.😁

Not only did we have gangsters, we also had weird people like Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka, who were sickos who raped and murdered young girls (teens). I believe Bernardo is still in jail but his partner in crime (who said he made her do it) got out, mainly because she cooperated with the police.
Thanks for tagging me - I haven't been on the Board in a few days
link (I've included a link to true Canadian crimes - the "Alberta Naked Kidnappings" looks interesting)

Really enjoyed this story. A good history lesson with a time period related story. Factual Dillinger history. Gangerters, 1930's, the ending of an era. SK managed to wrap it all together.

Excellent-- link works for me. Thank you @kurben . Roald Dahl sounds good to me. He was a staple in the Alfred Hitchcock anthology books I used to read as a teen. I still have some of those paperbacks around.

Even though I usually like gangster stories, I have always found this one to be a bit dry. Not sure why, all the elements are there, it just doesn't do it for me.

I finally finished this one. Not a subject of interest for me, but a decent story. (SK is fascinated by gangsters, I'm fascinated with SK - to each his own! )
