While thinking about the story, the following occurred to me: What if Darlene Muller kept a diary? In it she could have given her thoughts on motherhood, her marriage, her career, her charity work, beauty, life in general. What if in it she reveals she had a secret lover? These "excerpts" from her diary can be used to introduce chapters or in between chapter scenes. Dean Koontz (I believe) uses this technique to great effect in Intensity.
Second, the cellar of the Muller house (manor) would be an ideal place for some spooky hijinks to occur.

Looks like it could be Darlene Muller in earlier years, and the house was in good shape.
Mmmm.....maybe others might want to bring illustrations of the house in a more current dilapidated state with the GHOSTIE looking all macabre and/or gory! ......just kicking around ideas again.....tryin' not to go all Stupid Maverick.....  ......😊😉

I'm just interested to see where the story will go. It can go anywhere and thats the great of this form of writing. Darlene can be totally innocent of the childrens disappeareance, she can be guilty. The best is that you dont know. Re illustrations i think it would be wise to wait until the story is done before discussing iillustrations. You never know where this is heading. You never know that whats in the foreground in the first chapter will continue to be so. Some writer might decide to head off in a different direction. Thats part of the fun.

The individual writers can and will take this story wherever they want, within reason....just so long as everyone stays in line with the base story. We don't know, maybe Pruf's and your suggestions and ideas might help SOME of our writers here out if and when they get stuck. I value and always appreciate your input Swedish Indie. The possibilities are simply limitless !😊

Some writer might decide to head off in a different direction. ----------- as far as illustrations go, I believe every writer can include whatever they like to go with THEIR particular chapter. I particularly liked Pruf's wedding gown pic.....and it does go with HIS foreshadowing. I am an artist myself, because of a work agreement I am limited to how much of my artwork I can put out in the cyberverse......but even before I saw Pruf's illustration, I planned on a surprise, meaning that I'm thinking of including a photo of an object (appropiately placed) that MIGHT fit into my chapter I'm thinking up right now, providing it all jibes well with what JB comes up with, and what Prufrock has already given us to work with. 😊......also I have another lil surprise.....or two. 😊😉 Probably just best to let Miss doyoulove19 make all of the EDITING decisions when things and the surprises arise! 😄

OK folks, writing order for the 2020 Halloween story has been established as follows... coin flip for 1st writer, then I used a random number generator for picking last writer, then used a random sequence generator for the rest of the bunch. Numbers were assigned to participants by sign up order. My hubby, kid and doggo witnessed the assignments, so this is officially Official! 😊
Here is writing order and due date. Submit your chapters to me via PM. If someone finishes early, I will alert the next person so you can take advantage of that; we do have a couple of days cushion if anyone gets stuck. Also, we do have some writers with more experience on here, so you may also reach out if you would like some support from them. This is a team effort and I can't wait to see what you all make of this year's story!!
By the way, if anyone has a problem with their due date (ie: a conflict with another life thingie) just let me know and I will work something out with another writer. Thanks!!

Because this is a short story that anybody on the internet can read we are getting into a gray area on what images can be used. Europe recently enacted dome draconian laws surrounding copyrighted images used on the internet. And the fines can be quite substantial. I would suggest if you use an image for the short story you obtain it from a royalty-free website. There are a number out there. I use them for work quite a bit in the marketing pieces I create, but be sure to read how you are allowed to use them. Just information to consider.

The laws aren't as bad on the matter in the US as they are in Europe. I'm not sure, but I believe the hosting company for this site is possibly located in Europe. |

As an aside, both chapter 1 and 2 have a lead-in quote from a famous author. I think it would be cool if everyone could include that as well for continuity. What say you guys?

I really like the idea of having an image for each chapter, and even imbed them within the writings at times. Also like the idea of a lead-in quote from an author.
Pixabay is a website with stunning free images & royalty free stock. Over 1.8 million high quality stock images and videos. I use the website a lot.
I have just linked the 'horror' selections below. You can also search by haunted house, evil, terror... anything. Then right-click on an image and choose “Copy image address.”pixabay.com/images/search/horror/ |

But if you switch over to the Destop version on the phone (it is noted at the bottom of the page) you do see everything. The only problem on the Desktop Version on a phone is in posting. On average I lose a post three times before I get it right. |
