I have read The Regulators but not Desperation.
In the Regulators, Tak behaves like a Vampire sucking out his host' lifeforce.

You've got great observations that you share with us Diz! I think....from what I remember (been a long time ago that I read Desperation) ...that Tak was like a collective of demons. In this particular story. I have not read The Regulators yet. And where Tak came from was one of those special hot spots in the world, like the MicMac Burial ground in Pet Sematary. But....I know I should get the book again and read it a second time.
I never considered Tak to be any one thing, but any one of many.

I Hope You Get To Read it Again Sometimes it a Awesome Story Hey sis. 😊 Yeah, I remember that happening, but if I recall correctly there was a lot more to it than just that. I think that place was like the origin.....the cop Colley(?) Was like possessed by "one of those things" from that place.....I think ",those things" gave people thoughts and impulses of all kinds.

Good question....I thought of him as a demon, but then I realized that he doesn't seem to have a body of his own. He needs a host to really use his destructive power. He scares me --the way he uses people up and turns them against each other. Just reading about that creep is exhausting....one of the worst villains ever.

Here's an artist's interpretation of Tak and Seth (from The Regulators). I like it...it's cartoonish, but the idea is similar to what I imagined while reading the book.

Going by the books (Desperation and Regulators) Tak was a collection of demons that found a weak spot in space and was able to come partially to earth. He can't exist on his own and has to jump from host to host in order to stay here.
Now if you take the DT stuff into consideration (Spoilers perhaps) the can-toi and the taheen constantly put the word 'tak' in their language, suggestign that he was a deity of theirs at some point and possibly came from the Prim.
