pas a certain point he cleaned his own room (I think) but i get your idea on that …..never trust a landlord to NOT come in and check on things occasionally. 😄Yes! That’s ‘the cool crazy hair’ pic I got! 😄 I didn’t know you were standing outside a theatre! Lol, I thought it was a video or comic book store or something! 😄
…..you know if you would learn to tag and quote, I would find these random posts quicker JB. 😊😉 I was outside of a theater that closed. And noted, I will try to tag and quote better

I really didn't mind the changes they made to the story, it helped make it fit better with the original Shinning movie. The actors were great, the pacing was great. But what I didn't understand was why Abra wasn't Danny's niece in the movie. I felt that explained their connection well and gave another layer to Jack's story line. I realize the movie was long to begin with, but they already had Abra call him "Uncle Dan" in the movie. It wouldn't have taken much to explain this was a real thing. I feel like i'm nit picking, but the family connection was an important part of the novel. it could have added something more to the movie. I found this audio book not long ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it!
It doesn’t bother me that they left out that detail, significant as it is.
(especially since they cut David and Lucia out so much, and completely cut out Conchatta)
It would have taken up too much screen time to go into a scene to reveal and explain that. SK did hold that back until quite late in the story.
I had a bigger problem with the changing and adding to Grandpa Flick’s death scene, and the ending of the story.
I’ve got ambivalent feelings about both the book and the movies endings.
Still, I do love the movie too, and still consider it to be one of the best King screen adaptations. 😊

I'm not a fan of the ending either but I get why they did it, so that it was a sequel to the Kubrick as well. In a way it works but I liked the book ending better.

I just don’t like it when screenwriters deviate too far from SK’s books and characters. I think it was Mark Fuller, who wrote this screenplay? He did it really well, but changed some things a little TOO much for my liking. What Rose was saying to Flick as he was fading in and out, was well done and very good, but it painted a very different if Flick than the way King wrote him. And though the true knot was a vile bunch of steam eating vampires, they were ‘a family’ and not canabalistic. In the book they did not devour Flick’s steam. Rose’s end in the ending of the movie was GREAT! I did like it. But still… AND Fuller killed Danny! What the hell!? Tag! You’re it, JB! 😄

Jack comes back as a hero at the end of Dr Sleep and takes out Rose, but in the movie they...well they shouldn't have even bothered. I didn't like that Danny died either although I said that same thing about the original movie when they killed Hallorann. Tag youre it.

I liked Henry Thomas’ mash up of Jack and Loyd though. I thought he did that well. Boy they sure nailed Jack’s hair. 😊
I liked Conchetta ‘helping’ in the battle with the knot. And I don’t like to say this, and feeling disloyal to SK, but I secretly preferred the part of the movie when Danny released the horrific Overlook ghosts from his boxes and they fell upon Rose and ‘devouring’ her.😆👏👏👏 Rose the Hat is a great SK villain. But nothing like Randy Flagg who you can’t help liking and hate to love. I can’t stand that bitch Rose. And Rebecca Ferguson was truly superb in the role. She IS an excellent actress. And yes again, I hated Kubrick killing Dick too. 🤨 In some ways, Flick’s death scene was a little better in the movie, more dramatic and exciting. But I still don’t like the fact that those two areas of the film were so off from SK’s version of events and his characters.

She was dark skinned in the book too. All I clearly remember hearing in the audio book, was Abra having ‘blond ponytails’. And Conchatta having that dark Italian olive complexion.

I’m glad the movie didn’t have so much of the AA stuff in it. That got to be tedious in the book.

But in a movie it would have slowed it WAY down so yes you are right. Its up with the committee meetings in the Stand. I get why they are there but thank goodness they were never put on film. ….did you like the cool little Easter Eggs in the flick? Like the “Tet” busline Abra had taken when she first went to find Dan and talk with him. “Tet” was clear on the side of the bus. 😊
And the number 19 being Bradley the baseball boy’s number on the back of his jersey?
I tried to listen for the those things being mentioned in the audiobook, but I can’t recall them being there. I think I may have been just too engrossed in the events, and might have missed them. 😊
And going back to the one thing about the movie, that did not sit well with me, was the chalkboard wall in Dan’s rented room.
(I was more than satisfied with the hand held chalk board he actually had in the book. lol, that worked for me. 😄)
I remembered I had complained about Dan not erasing his and Abra’s messaging. It would have made him appear kinda batsh!t crazy to that hard nosed landlady, if she ever checked in on his room when he wasn’t there.
That wall was an addition in the film that was very cool, and looked great for the big screen. I DID really like it. 😊👏👏👏
So that was really a minor difference between book and screen, that really isn’t important to anyone but ME. 😂

I did indeed like those little easter eggs, ST references have started becoming a thing since the Myst. While i was miffed that Jack didn't come back to play Jack it was cool to see Henry Jackson Thomas again (he was Elliot in ET). And yeah I wondered about that too although the REDRUM moment was epic. Tag you're it.

Tag you're it. Yes, would have been nice to see Jack as Jack again. But not worth the time and money for such a brief appearance, I think. 🙂 Thomas is King screen veteran! He was Bobby Fornoy, and Jessie’s dad in “Gerald’s Game”. I can’t think of any other roles he’s been in, that were from King’s works.
Any way, I started a Doctor Sleep Characters thread in the novel section. I’ll try to get around to posting more in there. 🙂
