Thought I would start this thread in case anyone has any comments. I am not an aspiring writer but I did enjoy this book very much. I also got a good laugh out of one comment he made - I love his sense of humour!

This is one of my favorites as well. I've read it several times and like to pick it up and just read random pages. SK really is hilarious. He will insert some sort of dry humor or sarcasm in the most random places. I never took to Danse Macabre the way I did to On Writing.

I loved the book. I do write some, and it was great motivation as well as just good advice. In fact, it's my favorite book on writing.
It had a "homework" assignment in it that I followed up on. It was long over by the time I got to the Gracious Host's site, but it got me to the SKMB - another reason it has a special place for me.

Yeah, hey, guys! Late comer. I was invited earlier, and at the time things were pretty active, and I just didn't take the time, and then I'm old, so I forgot. Neesers reminded me. Great to be here!

Mr. King, I hope you follow up this book with On Reading. In my experience, SK seems to be more generous with his reviews/critiques than I tend to be. He obviously doesn't compare the books he recommends to his own work.

I wish he'd discriminate a little more; I guess he knows how it feels to be on the receiving end of a critic's whip.

He said the book "I'll be Gone in the Dark" was good and I agree (apart from the unfortunate circumstances the author met with before she had a chance to finish it)

Since this is related to the craft of writing, and with few writers here to warrant its own thread, I'm sharing this cool video here:

I read On Writing and really enjoyed it, then I got the audiobook read by SK himself and enjoyed it all over again, he does a great job on the audiobooks, adds a whole new dimension of enjoyment when he performs them.

I've read On Writing several times. Sometimes I just pick it up and open to a random page - I love his personal anecdotes. Made me feel like I was getting to know the real person behind the famous one. I've never listened to an audio book, but I think this would be the perfect one to start with!

mr. king is a good modest & well rounded man. critics of all the arts are to be ignored for a plethora of reasons. the beauty of any work of art is all in the senses of the beholder.

I really enjoyed On writing. It wasn't as good as Danse Macabre to me, but i was still an enjoyable read I dust off so often.

The most shocking thing I learned from that book was that young Stevie and his mom briefly lived in a town about 20 miles from me. De Pere, Wisconsin
