We have members from all over the world and from different regions of the United States where accents are markedly different. Please find and post a video (it can be anything, even from a movie) which you think best captures the dialect of your town. Then, post another video that represents your voice in particular. Here is a video of two women talking about accents. People in my town speak more like the woman on the left. It's hard to find videos that aren't exaggerated, especially videos from dialect coaches who purport to know exactly how people speak. This is just for fun but I'm genuinely interested in knowing what you all sound like.

I think I sound like Edward Norton but with a slight southern accent. I am like George Stark; you can't hear my southern accent unless I'm mad and yelling.

Cool thread doc...
I have different accents depending on what I'm doing...
Conversations: typical North Carolina southern US slightly twangy...
Auctioning: Kind of less accent and deeper...
Announcing games/radio broadcast of same: Even deeper/more enunciating...
Talking to women: Mostly incoherent gibberish...

Thanks, Kidd. I'm hoping people participate. Is this how you mean?

That's pretty close doc. In NC, as I am sure many other states, there are different accents/dialects depending on where you live. The young man in video sounds like he is more eastern NC going by his pronunciation of a couple of words. But the twang and deep voice is just about right. Not as much of a drawl as farther south like Georgia and not quite as nasally as Virginia.

My eldest sister was very country and I never quite developed the same twang. She said things like: "Diddy, why kayna play wi' my free-uns?" LOL My father always said 'winda' instead of 'window' and 'hole on' instead of 'hold on'.

@notaro Is this accurate? Yes Doc that's what you would normally hear around Dublin, places like Foxrock or Dún Laoghaire or BlackRock would sound different, clearer or more pronounced. Then places like Clondalkin and Jobestown would be more extreme, harsher.

My maternal grandparents were Germans from Russia. German was their first language. My mom grew up understanding it, but only spoke certain words and phrases. The accent is thick in many older people. A lot less pronounced than in the movie Fargo, but maybe it sounds like that if you're not familiar. Dunno. A lot of elongated vowels. Nooorth Dakooota LOL. My accent is thicker when I am tired (or drunk! ). I don't notice it much unless I am visiting somewhere out of state. And then mainly because someone points it out.
I wasn't born here, but moved back with my mom when I was two and was raised here. My ex says things like "hunnert" instead of hundred.
I'll try to look up some YouTube vids to see if any of them are even close...

I didn't figure the Fargo accent was too accurate but it's really my only point of reference for North Dakota. In movies people from Minnesota speak with a slight Canadian accent and say things like, "Shooor, oh shoooor." Like they are nodding in agreement. "You betcha." Stuff like that. LOL.

The young man in video sounds like he is more eastern NC going by his pronunciation of a couple of words. But the twang and deep voice is just about right. Not as much of a drawl as farther south like Georgia and not quite as nasally as Virginia. This is closer to my accent than anything I've seen. I think I have slightly more of a drawl, and I tend to drop the 'g' on words ending in 'ing'. My accent also changes depending on who I'm around. If I'm at work, it's hardly detectable because clients have to be able to understand me. If I'm around my own kind, the accent is much heavier, because my family has to be able to understand me. It's also more evident if I've had a few drinks, or if I'm particularly angry about something.
True story: one of my friends from school moved to California about 30 years ago. He lost his accent for the most part......except for when he talks to me. He said his wife can always tell when I've called him because she can't understand him for a couple of days.

How do you all pronounce 'sandwich'? I noticed I say san'wich, and I've heard others even add an m...sam-witch. When I say sandwich (stressing the 'd') I feel like I'm on Downton Abbey pouring Earl Gray, LOL. IDK...although correct, it feels fastidious.
What words do you notice you say differently than others?

I use Y'all and You'uns interchangeably. It depends on if I'm around more of my own kind, I'll say You'uns. Otherwise, I say Y'all.

If I'm asking you if you've eaten yet, what it actually sounds like is Jeet, instead of Did you eat.
I say What'cha doin' instead of what are you doing
Imma fixin' means I'm getting ready to
The list goes on and on.....
