Devil House started out weird, but in a good way. Then it got weirder, but still good. Then it changed into a different book - 'olde English font and language - kings, knight, etc'. And then it changed again- I stuck through it, but the first 3rd was the best. Didn't love it.

The Algebraist
A science Fiction Novel by Iain Banks.
Had to put it down after 180 pages. I've been struggling for days to even get through the first 100 pages (btw, the plot of the book isn't even revealed until page 100)
Confusing flashbacks, lengthy sentences, excessive use of commas, and side stories that never went anywhere, it seems like he could have cut some things out.
I´ve read some Space Operas, and they all had a Glossary. Not this one. A new Species, Planet, Moon, Group, Name (etc.) on almost every page.

With sentences that stretch an entire page, and chapters full of endless backstory, this books feel like a real slog.

Finished Insomnia by Stephen King and picked up Moby D!ck by Herman Melville where I had left off. God, what a tedious read. After 102 chapters I realize it's mostly a novel about processing whales and wooden ships in the mid 1800's. "Great American Novel"... my arse!

The "plot" is about 100 pages or so, the rest....Whale Facts. So true... Page after page of pure boring frustration that drones on and on. I endure it because then I can say I actually read it, and I hold out for hope that all the characters die at the end. smilie_wut_086

I really liked it up all the way up to the airplane scene with things floating all around in space, and I thought King went kinda stupid maverick with that part. But it recovered again after that.

But it recovered again after that. Ralph is one of my all time favorite King Characters, along with Jud and Homer Buckland. Been YEARS since I've read "Insomnia" (or "The Green Mile") but Ralph's relationship with his lady friend, reminded me a little of Paul's friendship with his lady friend in the nursing home.
(SORRY...I can't remember their names! I have not reread every book of King's...badbadbadwolf )
