Who do you like the most and least of the characters in SK’s novel “Doctor Sleep”? The good and the bad guys. 🙂

Abra’s great grandmother, Conchetta (Momo), is a character I was dubious about at first. But she grows on you. 🙂
The True Knot.
Now that is a very interesting band of villainous characters, apparently from places and times all over. I think. Descendants of (by way of their ritual feeding initiations) ancient vampire like creatures that must have been around since the beginning of time.
Their ‘nomadic’ way of life is very Romani gypsy like, and Rose the Hat is reminiscent of an Irish gypsy (Traveler/ tinker).
And I really took note of the way they refer to most other people who are not them, or like them, as ‘rubes’, much like traveling carnival folk do.
(I was almost expecting Conchetta to be familiar with their kind of evil. She made me think of Richie Ginelli consulting his mother about curses in “Thinner”. I liked Ritchie and his mom. 🙂)
What do you think about the True Knot, JB darkharbinger ?
I would have love to have gotten more on their individual back stories. 🙂

The true knot is an interesting spin on the vampire coven. They can pass as human, aren't even overly powerful like the Type Three vampires in the Dark Tower. It's a gift of SK's that he can make them sympathetic and even likeable at times despite the fact that they are clearly monsters.
I like the carnie/gypsy aspects of the group and how they travel in RVs (probably in covered wagons once upon a when). They likely know the waylines to the strange, thin places in the world (like the Overlook) and have been around as long as the Shine has. It seems they had a bit of the Shine to begin with, which makes you wonder how dangerous Abra or Danny would have been as part of the knot.

I do not think that they were Romani gypsies or anything like that. I just think that particular ‘nomadic way of life’ suited them, and was the best way to serve their purposes all around.
Torture, suffering and fear were apparently very important to their feedings, and added to the experience greatly.
(how they are ‘made or turned’ is still a bit of a mystery, other than the fact that stored children steam was ingested. That part was vague for me.
I remember them being planted in a spot off from the events of 911 and ‘psychically/emotionally feeding’ off the suffering and trauma during that time. So they must have been able to feed off the ordinary ‘rubes’ as well.
There’s a lot to this bunch!😊 In the book I didn’t find any of them to be particularly likable at all, just very interesting. Their individual abilities seemed to vary, as did their level of power.
I’d say they were far more powerful in their earlier days, as well as being more numerous. When steam was more abundant.
Sigh!…wish I had the book, to comb through and reread. I don’t like missing so many details listening to the audio. 😊

Yeah they are psychic vampires, that's why pain and fear is like cocaine to them. I'd say at one time they all were shine users that were changed in some way (SK is vague about it).
I'll get you a copy of the book
