Great Finale.
Buck joining the wild wolves, and becoming father of a new breed of wild dogs.
Glad he met Thornton, two chapters before. I don't think he would have made it with the brutal owners he had before thornton.
After Thorntons dead,it's the first time Buck doesn't have a master, and leaves him the master of his own fate.

He must master or be mastered; while to show mercy was a weakness. Mercy did not exist in the primordial life. It was misunderstood for fear, and such misunderstandings made for death. Kill or be killed, eat or be eaten, was the law; and this mandate, down out of the depths of Time, he obeyed.
I thoroughly enjoyed that one. Not only is this the story of Buck but Buck's life with the different owners showed the different ways of life in this hard land.
It was rough for a while but Buck finally got to have a happy life.

There were definitely a lot of tragedies. It was a story that was often sad, and difficult, but the ending was uplifting.
After all that has happened, Buck can no longer be a pampered house dog. Him being part of a pack and living in the wild is the correct ending.

As all have said, was a difficult read, esp. for a dog lover. The ending was an excellent outcome. Full circle. Buck is a strong character and endured life as it came to him. I was pleased to see this ending.

(I’m sorry guys, I just didn’t want to read this one. I still have some bad memories from reading Anna Sewell’s ‘Black Beauty’, when I was a kid.)
