Le sigh. I was at a festival today with my daughter. A gentleman friend I like very much comes up to me, kiss - kiss, excited to show off his adorable grandkids sitting at a table with a woman. I was appropriately bedazzled - one was a ginger!! Cute kids, then I said, is Nancy your daughter? :Mic drop: He pulls himself up to his full height and stares at me. "No." I feel the awkwardness of the moment. So I say "Oh, I just thought she might be the kid's mom, that's all". And he proceeds to tell me his son and family have moved in with him... I move on, sit down, he and his group leave very shortly afterward. Did I run them off?
See, the thing is - he's married and that wasn't his wife. I didn't have my glasses on, so I couldn't really see her face well, but Elly tells me later there's no way she was young enough to be his daughter. "She was older than you MOM!" is how Elly said it to me. Hrmph.
So I texted a friend in the know, inquiring if he's gotten a divorce that no one told me about. Nope - but his wife has been suspecting him of fooling around.... well, damn... so he brings his new girl to a CHURCH EVENT? How's that for flaunting it?
I'm torn. I feel horrible that I insinuated a women most likely his age was his daughter, and he was clearly offended, and really he's always been a friend of mine.
But on the other hand, I like his wife - how humiliating for her that's he's with another woman at an event where many of their mutual friends are.
I am shockingly naive.
Share your moments, please. I feel ... hmm... I think the word would be embarrassed and misunderstood.

I feel ... hmm... I think the word would be embarrassed and misunderstood. Are you absolutely sure she wasn’t just a friend of his? I know you said his wife suspected him of fooling around, but you may have just jumped to a conclusion. It seems like his grandkids were comfortable around her, maybe she was his sister or cousin or something. I’m sorry you embarrassed yourself like that in public like that, not fun.

@wayoftheredpanda Good point - it very well could have been. I guess that's what I was thinking - I wanted him to tell me who she was. I hate making a mistake like that. I am socially awkward. I'm better off just staying home, reading and going to be early.

I'm better off just staying home, reading and going to be early. Maybe the best route of course is to apologize and tell him you didn’t have your glasses on and therefore couldn’t make out her face very well the next time you see him.

@wayoftheredpanda - Yes, I was thinking I probably should. I'd feel better about it if I did.

But seriously - don't fret over it and don't worry who the mystery woman was
By the way, I used to put my foot in my mouth frequently, years ago. It's gotten better with time. So don't feel too bad hollygolightly

neesy Thanks, doll! I'm am such an overthinker ( @doccred !) . By the time I got to mass yesterday, I was feeling better. The guy is a rogue - really. I think anyone who knows me knows there is no malice in me. I wat truly wondering where his wife was so I could say Hi to her and trying to connect this unfamiliar face to them somehow. I'm better. I was obsessing.

I can’t say I have, my knees can’t bend that far.
This. However, I have attempted to many, many times... If I got a brick for every time I embarrassed myself, I would live in a castle.
I'm glad you're feeling better, I really don't think you said anything wrong, not at all!

I'm glad you're feeling better, I really don't think you said anything wrong, not at all! I need to test this castle theory, what would you say is the average number of times you embarrass yourself on a daily basis?

About three times on a good day, seven times on a bad day. So I'd say five times on average.

Usually I'd say that that's not something you should ask a lady, but since I'm so happy that I'm not in my 20's anymore I will disclose the fact that I currently am 31-years-old.

Ah, I'm always happy to support an interesting project like this. You have enough bricks to build 11 of one of the world’s smallest castle

@adminosnafrank Did that work? Thank you, Frank! I love all y'all too - my Tet. I can't tag you - I forgot how neesy showed me, but I'd have to leave here to find it. And when I quote a post I end up responding inside the quote. I'm a simpleton!
