This is an unreliable narrator story. The narrator is admitting his crime to the reader but at the same time trying to convince the reader of his sanity. He claims he can't be insane because he's so methodical. It's an incredible tale of madness, paranoia, tension and horror. I think the narrator's claim that he loved the man makes him seem even more mad. The story is so methodical, it's hard to believe how short it is. The descriptions of slowly opening the door are brilliant.

Madness mixed with guilt in the mind of murderer. The narrator attempts to justify why he killed the man, thus in his mind, he is perfectly sane. Excellent short story. Very descriptive bringing the reader into the story.

Me, Mad ? Just because i killed a man and dismembered his body ? Nah, i'm totally fine.
A Macabre, excellent story, one of the best short stories ever written.
The Murderer is a man of brains, without heart. Even when the police arrives, he stays calm and composed.
What makes a cold blooded killer, madness, badness....or both ?
