Hey all!
I was wandering all over the board this morning, wanting to strike up a little conversation about the value of taking the time to read bad books.
"Now Tanith," I hear you say, "why would you want to do that?"
And the answer is simple enough...I want to start writing regularly again. This is something I haven't done for a while, for a number of reasons. And basically you can't know how to produce what's good without an understanding of what's bad. Then I spotted a short video by Alan Moore encouraging would-be writers to do exactly this...it can be instructive as well as encouraging: "That [BLEEP] got published? Then I have a chance!"
Long story short: I've started up my dormant blog and posted about this in a little more detail. I will be writing a follow-up post when this experiment concludes. I'll be withholding the name of the author and the work, since the idea here is to learn, not to bash people and embarrass them.

Thanks, wolf. I was a little shocked to see I've had that blog for a decade, nearly...and haven't been consistent about using it. That needs to change, a muscle that's not exercised turns to flab.

Following up on my post here, rather than clutter the board with a new thread.
Back in the spring I was considering doing a Whovian fanfic for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), which some of you may have heard of. A site where you can track your goal of writing an entire novel (50k words total) for the month of November (around 1700 words a day). There...ah, was a lively community on the site's forums so writers could help and encourage one another.
I say "was" because that community seems to have imploded spectacularly. The forums are locked down, there are all sorts of "WTF happened" threads on Reddit and other social media connected with the site. I was reading through a detailed synopsis of what went wrong and...yeah, they have a lot to unpack.
Now, the site itself is up and running just fine so anyone who is interested in using it may do so. I myself will not be proceeding with my project since I've just committed to the tet's Christmas story and the muse is already whispering theme ideas in my ear. Anyway, I like our little community here much better!
